I took my truck in for service (rotors got hot and glazed over) and was curious about pads, they were quoting me $157 for a set of front pads. Is this right, or is this the delaership markup?

Not necessarily "Dealership Markup" but it is markup associated with most any repair facility. Most any repair facility whether it be a dealership, Ntl Tire Store chain or independently owned, they will make a profit on the parts they sell you.

Pads for your truck over the counter at a parts store could be had from anywhere from low $30s to $75.00+. It all depends all on the quality you are looking for.

If you elect to do your own, I would suggest our (CARQUEST) Blue series or Gold Series pads. Both are supplied to us by Raybestos and are application specific formulated. In other words, the same material needed for the pads on a Camry is not necesarily the same material needed for a GM truck. Both are avail in Ceramic or Metalic. The Blue series is slightly less expensive than the Gold, they are a little softer making them slightly quieter and smoother but will not offer the same life as the Gold. Don't get me wrong, they are still a great pad, much better than our entry Red line and they will offer better performance and longevity than many other so called "premium" pads.
