Any Thoughts On Catback Exhaust For 07 Vmax?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am getting exhaust done here in a few weeks on my new truck, but I am in a dilemma on what to get. I have did alittle research and I have narrowed it down to these brands; Magnaflow, Corsa, and GM's own catback exhaust. I see these different reviews on each one, they all sound like good exhaust systems. I have a couple of buddies who have magnaflow on there cars, but there gonna sound and perform different on a truck. I would like alittle help and thoughts from any one who has or had an aftermarket exhaust system, what they think of it, the performance, the sound and what are the specs of each one.

Thanks

Whatever you decide on, make sure that the system is designed for the AFM system on your truck. Otherwise, when it goes into V4 mode, you'll be unhappy with the sound...drone like an import fart can.

I'm also researching catback systems for my '07 Silverado LTZ crew cab, 6.0L...from what I've determined, only BORLA, CORSA (GMPP) and GIBSON have new systems available (or soon to be released).

I'm waiting to hear back from B&B (Billy Boat in Phx, AZ). I want all stainless which might cost a little more. I want a lifetime warranty, which some might not offer. Some systems require removal of the spare tire, which I do not want.

GMPP (Borla) requires removal of the spare tire.

Borla, Corsa and Magnaflow have specially baffled mufflers to minimize drone.

Corsa is the highest price, Borla 2nd and Magnaflow 3rd (of these 3).

After doing alot of research on this myself, I have found that adding a Magnaflow muffler only (no catback) will provide virtually the same performance improvement. The catback will only add looks.

Personally, I do not want a loud truck, but I do want improved performance (once I get my tune, whenever that happens?). So, as of today (and this seems to change daily), I am thinking of just getting the muffler replaced with a Magnaflow for about $150. This will retain the stock piping and resonator after the muffler to minimize drone even more. My local tuner told me this would be plenty sufficient for any mild mods (CAI, Tune).

Are you sure the muffler alone is the same muffler used in their AFM catback systems? Neither CORSA (GMPP) nor BORLA will sell the muffler alone. Is the muffler alone the same OD as the catback system?

According to the guy I spoke with at my local muffler shop. He only saw one part number for a Magnaflow muffler for my truck.

Ok what I am confused about is GM Catback exhaust, who makes it? Corsa or Borla? I know that Corsa is GM Licienced and makes a specific one for the new AFM engines, but is that who actually makes the new GMPP catback exhaust?

CORSA manufactures the GMPP systems currently being sold by GM dealerships. In the past, it was BORLA.

Here's another system that might be considered...B&B EXHAUST (Billy Boat of Phoenix, AZ) just advised that they are now making a complete single or dual T304 stainless exhaust for the AFM trucks. Their pricing is comparable to CORSA or BORLA, about $1,000.00. Their systems do not require removal of the spare tire. Their systems all exit under the rear bumper, not side swept behind the rear tire.

They're a highly respected company who's well known for their Corvette exhaust systems. They only make a "throatier" sport version. They don't keep anything in stock, but they custom build the system in their shop with three weeks lead time. They can also install the system for $95/hr at their north Phoenix plant. They estimate installation takes one hour with a lift, necessary tools and experience.

If you ordered the system from one of their distributors, they'd probably order it to be manufactured at the plant and ship it to the customer.

You sure about this? Everything I have read about this has stated that the GMPP system is made by Borla. And ironically, the GMPP (Borla) system requires removal or deflaton of spare tire to fit. The Corsa fits fine.

I'm sorry sir but you are wrong. I just installed my GMPP (Borla) system on my 2008 Silverado last week. I contacted both Borla & Corsa during my research and have found that Corsa used to make the exhaust systems for these trucks, but now Borla makes GM's truck performance systems. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with this system. I will post pictures and sound clips of it at the end of this week when I get some time. I got the dual exit performance system and it sounds so good. Such a throaty but yet refined V8 sound. Everyone that hears it just loves it.

During my research since I've purchased my '07 Silverado, I've contacted just about every after market exhaust manufacturer there is. I've not found many that make systems for the new AFM trucks yet.

One of the first I contacted was BORLA in May or June '07. I spoke to their tech over the phone and asked him specifically if BORLA made the GMPP systems for GM. He stated they used to, but did not currently manufacture any systems for GMPP. He stated that CORSA had the current bid for GM.

I immediately called CORSA and spoke to one of their techs. I asked him if he knew who made the current GMPP catback systems for GMPP. He stated that CORSA was currently manufacturing the systems.

So, maybe BORLA and CORSA are taking turns each month making the GMPP systems...many BORLA got the current '08 contract...believe who you want to believe, but I got my information from the same sources you evidently did. It doesn't really matter as long as you're happy with the system you had installed on your new truck...

If you go to the gmpartsdirect.com website they still show CORSA as the manufacturer of the exhaust systems... http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?s...partnumber=1500

Back in April of this year I purchased a GMPP cat back for my 2005 GMC. The instruction sheet that came with the cat back had BORLA written on them. I called Borla and they said that they made this cat back for General Motors.

I also have a Corsa system for the truck. The GMPP catback interfears with my rear swaybar.

The Corsa in my opnion is a much better exhaust than the gmpp.

Have a great day.

Are there GMPP or Borla exhausts available for the 6.0L Vmax? I really like the looks of the dual with exit behind tires.

Last I looked, neither Borla nor GMPP had anything listed for 6.0L VMax. Makes me think Borla makes the GMPP system.

Wow this has turned into a good heated debate. I know that if you go on Corsa website it tells you they have a new catback exhaust system for the new 07 AFM engines and i've also read somewhere they are GM Licienced. I am gonna have to call them tomorrow and find out for sure if they make the new GMPP exhaust for the new trucks. Also if you notice for the new trucks GM has a performance exhaust and a touring exhaust, and so does Corsa.

GMPP has a new catback exhaust for the new 6.0L you can order right from your dealer. Corsa also has a new exhaust for the new AFM engines including 6.0L. Both offer a sport and touring exhaust. Now according to my dealer they have to remove spear tire for GM's dual rear exit but with corsa's you don't have to.
