Help Setting Up My Air Compressor

Recommended Posts

Scored an air compressor from neighbor for $300. Here are specs:

Husky 60 gallon

7 HP

11.8 SCFM @ 40 psi

10.3 SCFM @ 90 psi

135 psi max

Want to route an air line up the wall and to overhead retractable hose reel. Few questions for you all:

1. What to run from compressor to the hose reel? PVC pipe, steel pipe or something else?

2. How large of hose for the retractable unit? 1/2 inch or 3/8 inch? 50 ft enough?

3. Regulator at the compressor?

4. What about water filter? At or near compressor?

5. What else do I need to make this right?

Want to get this all planed out so I don't have to correct my mistakes.

I would say 3/8" hose, and 50 feet is a pretty good standard length. I would put the regulator at the compressor if your only going out 50 feet. otherwise id get a regulator than can be coupled between hoses if your going out more than 50 feet (for example 2 50' hoses) And I would make everything snap on and off with quick couplers...it just saves time. Good luck

I would use copper 1/2 pipe. PVC works but does not age well, in the cold it can be brittle. Would probably give 5 years trouble free service though. Copper takes a little longer to install but is probably life of your house quality. Costs more but not a big amount.

Unless you need a 3/4 impact gun 3/8 hose is fine. Buy a good water filter, cheap ones don't work at all. Could cost a couple hundred for a good one. I bought the $ 30.00 unit at Lowes and it was not help at all for moisture control.

Good luck

Thanks for feedback. I'm probably going to mount the retractable reel close to the compressor and just use 3/8" hose to connect the two.

Picked up a $100 regulator/filter/water trap, hope it works well.
