Magnaflow Single Side Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Installed the Magnaflow today. The sound is exactly what I was looking for....quiet when cruising and just loud enought when on the accelerator. After hearing the Magnaflow, I think the stock exhaust was droning, I just didn't realize it! Shifts a lot smoother going in to 2nd at WOT, and pulls better throught rpms. I have been driving the SCT for a while with stock exhaust and my "seat of the pants" says I gained some considerable power (for just adding a cat-back).

I don't have the best camera, just a sony cybershot, so the sound isn't great but you guys should get the basic sound. Enjoy!

It sounds like a truck should sound low and mean!!!!

which exhaust did you put on and if you don't mind was it expensive?? Was it just a muffler or a complete exhaust?

Thanks

I have also gained mileage already! I was cruising back from the track at 70 and getting almost 20.5 mpg! I use to only get about 18 at 70.

Helped install a Magnaflow system, dual exit, on a buddy's 06 Z71 last year and it sound's awesome. Was'nt that impressed untill I heard him pulling into a parking lot a few week's ago and I had to look to see who's vehicle was sounding that good.

Sounds good - although save some $$$$$$ next time by swapping out the stock muffler and adding an exhaust tip - did that to mine for $200.00

I know this is going to sound crazy but...i was bored and unbolted my Y pipe form the rest of the exhaust and i was impressed with it..

Not very loud or anything. it was dumping right under the cab so it wasnt the greatest inside, but my question is what if i just removed the stock muffler all together and ran i straght pipe where the muffler was?

What do you think that wouldd sound like...

Awesome sounding exhaust system you have there. I wish I knew how to put mine on here. All though, I sometime wish mine sounded that "soft" and sweet.

I had a custom system installed on my 2003 Silverado. It now sports a true dual exhaust system from the exhaust manifolds back. Yes, I have two catalytic converters, two Magnaflow race series mufflers and customed installed 3" Stainless steel pipes. Are they loud, let's just say that they turn heads when I excellarate hard.

anyone know which one of these can be direct replacement for the stock

one. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopdis...main&id=301

new member and wanted to respond. I used the following Magnaflow parts:

muffler: #12279

tip: #35206

I have a NBS SC/SB and Magnaflow doesn't have a kit yet so I went cheap to experiment. I have had several Magnaflow systems on previous trucks.

When welding the muffler in I found out that the front of the stock exhaust is 3 inch and the tailpipe is 2.75. A muffler shop can cut a shim from a 3 inch pipe and it fits perfectly inside the muffler and the tip for installation

I ordered both parts off of ebay from Performance Curve. Make an offer and see what they come back with. I paid $75 for the muffler and $40 for the tip (free shipping) and $30 for the welding in at the muffler shop. Muffler fits perfectly between supports on my truck.

Nice sound just above stock, good mellow response when accelerating hard (which is every opportunity for me) and no drone but you can hear when the AFM kicks in. Still I am pleased with the mod. I'm so pleased that I might not order a full kit from Magnaflow.

I haven't taken any pics (I know I'm letting the board down, sorry).

Your truck sounds almost exactly like mine.

I really like my Magnaflow w/3" duals, but sometimes I wish it was a little bit louder.

One day I might purchase some bigger tips for more sound...

    • Ok that confirms the extra quart theme they are still going with which must mean they have noted some initial use more so then some engines and probably the bigger factor in all of this probably isn't the engine so much as its the insane distance or OLM that lulls a lot of the driving public into driving their new vehicle off the lot and not even doing one short interval oil change because the manufacturer doesn't say different and if the dealer follows that logic as well. Selling the rarely needing to be serviced concept seems to go over well with the public that wants to get away with as little as possible for dollars spent on the vehicles maintenance and I bet there are 3.0 engines just like other vehicles out there that never have their oil checked by the owner which goes back to why they probably felt the need to add that extra quart to avoid a costly theme.    Speaking of cutting filters open, it was probably over two years ago now that a youtuber who buys vehicles to do longer term reviews and pulls a fifth wheel through the mountains of Colorado on summer trips and that becomes part of the testing. Anyway he had a GM HD with the 6.6 gas and a Ford 250 with the 7.3 gas at the same time and of no surprise the Ford had more power etc but somewhere along the way in the few thousand miles he put on the truck, he changed the oil and was seeing glitter and cut open the filter and yeah, things were not looking spectacular. The truck about that time or soon after seemed down on power compared to what it had been and then threw some engine code, I expect the cam/lifters were failing and so he brought the truck back to the dealer and made some deal to get out of it as he knew it would sit for months waiting on a new engine as they were so backlogged at the time. He kept the GM for some time after that using it exclusively until he sold it after buying his next vehicle to do a review on. Definitely the filter can tell a story when things are starting to go sideways, but it would be a sickening feeling to cut it open and be faced with an ugly mess like that and be running a magnet through the pleats and the oil on the dirty side of the filter and see all the fines sticking to the magnet.    The dealer may have some ideas based on experience as to where that coolant smell is coming from, I would imagine if they can't find it but its smelling they would put dye in it to they could give it a run cycle and use the black light to see where it pops up, if its a hose connection, water pump, rad or even a head gasket etc.
    • Good looking truck, suspensionmaxx looks like a solid option
    • Thanks for the info, im considering a leveling kit or 4" lift kit.
    • charm.li (website) has the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure for that code, you can use to find what the cause of it is.
    • It’s at the point of amusement. I’m retired I have time. It’s fun seeing people try to convince me I’m using oil. I’m buying oil at the prescribed time. It gets drained and new goes in. Do I add in between, no. My oil doesn’t even get dirty in 5k miles. I don’t even see any drop on the stick. I check in the same place. All is well.
