4wd Switch Problem?

I have a 2007 NBS Sierra crew. I noticed tonight my 4WD switch was in the 2WD position but the amber light was lit in the auto 4WD mode. I switched to auto then back to 2WD and the amber light went to 2WD mode. I'm hoping I haven't driven my first 600 miles in auto 4WD, sine I've done a bunch of highway driving at close to 80 MPH. Has anyone else noticed this or had the same issue? Fuel mileage has been about 13.6 mixed driving.

I guess it was unique to me. Seems to be working ok for now.

If you went that far that fast, I doubt you had 4WD on. I'm sure it was just the computer being confused about something. Sometimes a computer will make a one in a million mistake, it just so happened you got the one in a million, and luckily it was just a false light. From what I can understand, if you were driving in 4WD you can feel it when you go to turn.

It wasn't in 4WD, but Auto 4WD. It would only engage if it sensed a slip. My thought was it would still have to turn the front shaft and might hurt mileage, plus the fact that the switch was in one position and the indicator showed something else.

Auto 4WD means when the rear tires start slipping it automatically locks in the front differential almost instantly. It will not ruin anything if you drive in auto 4x4, except if your doing burnouts in the rain in 4x4 and hit a good dry patch, then you might do something, but otherwise your overreacting over something little.
