Burnt Brake Pad Smell

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Earlier I went to a family gathering, and as I came back down a couple of downhill streets, I started smelling burnt brake pads...initially I thought it was another car, but then I stopped at the store, upon closer inspection, I realized the smell was coming from the front left wheel of my truck.

Should I be worried about this?

I bet they are going to just grease up the moving parts, its probably hanging up, or maybe theres air in the brake lines that the pistons arent releasing or something of the like. Id have to bet that it needs some grease. I DEFINATELY would take it in, especially because its under warranty. When its out of warranty like mine its more fun to fix because I just remember what the dealer used to do.

It's not unusual to get a little burning smell on new pads and rotors as they bed. I notice this when I change them out. Check if you can spin the wheel freely while off the ground in neutral. If it's binding, you'll know if a caliper is hanging up. I'd have it looked at by the dealer but don't be surprised if they say it's from the bedding of the new components.
