I purchased 2000-2500 4x4 sht bed x-cab 6.0 auto highway tires 95,000 mi.

 

Truck has vibration that starts at 60mph and gets worse as speed increases. At 80 mph sounds as if you are driving on rumble strips on shoulder. Dealer has rebuilt transmission, front dif, rear dif, balanced both drive shafts, replaced CV joints, front wheel bearings, turned rotors, replaced tires & Wheels.

 

WHATS LEFT?

Truck has been in dealers shop for 2 months. GM says to replace front drive shaft with a new GM Drive shaft. Could this solve the vibration?

Rough guess, Shocks?

 

Though not as bad as yours; at 95k my ride went to hell until I replaced my shocks.

 

Sorry, I forgot they did shocks first.

 

If front drive shaft out and truck is in 4x4 NO VIBRATION!

Balance drive shaft or a different shaft from new truck, vibration is back.

It is the front drive diff, axles or bearings. they have replaced all.

Whats next? GM says get a new front drive shaft NOT a OEM but NEW.

My 03 Yukon had same problem and I went through the same routine with dealer. After 2 new front tires and and alignment I discovered 3 dents on driveshaft near the rear yoke. I pulled the rear driveshaft off had it re-tubed & 2 new u-joints installed , probelm gone. Previous owner appears drove over curb or big rock.

Is there a lift on the truck? Has anyone looked at the front axle shafts? When the dealer installed the drive shave, did they rotate in in different positions?

Not to place blame, but didnt you notice any of this when you test drove the truck before purchasing?

No lift on truck.

Drive shaft is one piece.

Both drive shafts (front and main) have been balanced twice each. Now I am getting a new one.

 

Yes I did notice the vibration when purchasing the truck. As part of contract "Fix vibration" . All work done to date is on the dealers nickle. Like I said, Good thing is my truck should be new on the bottom. Bad thing is I have not got to drive it for two months. Dealer is really frustrated. The local District Attorney is after them to get it fixed. They gave me a '07 Pontiac G6 to drive while mine has been in the shop last two months. After diving 3/4 ton trucks.........WOW 35 mgp is great! I guess I let them keep throwing parts at it. I offered a trade out about trhee weeks ago but they are too far into it going down a slipperly slope.

I had a similar problem with my 01 1500 ext cab. It turned out to be a bent rim and a horriblr alinement, fixed both and no more vibration in the wheel

Dealer put set tires/rims off new truck. Vibration still exists.

They took those back off, #$!#.

What I meant earlier about the "rotation" was; how the drive shaft was bolted to the flanges. I have seen one removed without the individual marking the alignment and when the shaft was installed it was "out of phase"(Best way I can put it). The truck then had a noticible vibration. The shaft was then rotated 90 degrees with no luck, then 180 degrees. The vibration stopped.

 

I would most likely put a new shaft on and see the result. If this doesnt solve the problem, I'd look towards the transmission/ Torque converter, since the vibration is only at 60+ mph.

Aaahh well.. Just roughin ya up a little. Welcome to the group.

 

Back on the subject. I think you have a bad outer CV joint (or bent halfshaft) that is throwing the whole rotating mass of one side of the front end out. How's THAT for a theory? I know you say they replaced CV joints... but I would have to see that. Most dealers wouldn't replace expensive parts without knowing they were bad. They probably "checked" them and decided they were ok. It's really hard to visually inspect a CV correctly unless you have a lot of experience with them.

How can you drive in 4x4 without the front shaft? You mean when you drive around in 2wd?

In 4x4, w/o front shaft off the truck, the transfer case just spinning. Still have rear drive shaft in place and truck is drivable and has no vibration. This eliminates transmission and transfer case from cause of vibration.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?

      So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
