Put A New Oem Stereo Unit In My 2000

I am curious if a newer stereo head unit, probably 03 to 06, will fit in my 2000 Silverado?

I want a stereo capable of playing mp3 cds, but I don't like the look of after market equipment.

I am of course assuming that GM had stereo units with mp3 capabilities?

Anyone know or have any other ideas for me?

Your assumption is correct. GM does make Mp3 CD players, but before you make that move, be sure the format you are burning is Mp3 and not WMA. I bought a portable <Mp3 cd player a while back and thankfully I got it at an extremely reduced rate (going out of business sale). As for it fitting I can't tell you either way, but I thought I heard GM changed the H/U size?

I don't think it will work out for you.

First, I know for sure the BOSE out of an '03 does NOT play mp3's.

Second, the '03 and later models use a serial data bus to control the power, chimes, etc through the head. Your 2000 doesn't use it.

Sorry.

I have a 2001 Silverado and I also wanted to play mp3's while retaining my GM factory radio. If you have an AUX button on your radio, you could go the route I've taken. I bought an Ipod Nano and used an Ipod2car interface that connected directly to the rear of the factory radio. It allows you to listen and control your iPod through your current audio system, and and it also charges the iPod when it's connected.

If you use mp3's that are 192-320kpbs, you'll be amazed of the sound quality. I find the sound as good as my store bought CD's --- plus the ipod nano has a built-in equalizer, so you can add some needed enhancements to your factory radio. I currently have 530+ mp3's loaded on my ipod and that's plenty.

Now don't get the Ipod2car interface confused with those cheap FM transmitters or cassette adapters, those produce lower quality sound.
