Spark Plug Question

I recently changed the spark plugs in my 2000 z71. It has 147,xxx miles and I figured they were original so it was a past due change. I know OE plugs were ACdelcos but they were a little on the pricey side for me at the moment so I went with autolite platinum's. Will I be regreting this down the road and have to switch plugs before the next scheduled change? Also the plugs that came out of the truck were gapped at either .044 or .045 and the ones i put in were gapped at .060 which is what is on the fan shroud underneath the hood.

I just changed mine in my 04 5.3L using the AC Delcos recommended on their site. They were gapped at .040 from the factory and the site said to leave them as gapped from the "spark plug factory." Check AC Delco's web site.

The .044 gap is for the iridiums GM recommends now on the 5.3. If you use plats keep them at .060. I'm running NGK tr-55 copper plugs @ .060 I'll probably only get 30-35K out of these but they burn exceptionally well and you can't go wrong if they use them on the vette

So those are just the regular TR55, not the TR55GP or TR55IX? And did you re-gap them to .060 cuz the parts store im looking at online says .044?

Another ? for ya guys... Do your trucks have a bit of a rough idle? I dont mean a really bad one where its gonna die or something if your not on the gas. I mean just enough to notice it when your in park or at a stop light. Mine had that before I changed the plugs. With the new plugs it seems to have gotten a smidgen worse. However, I did not change the plug wires, could that be a possible cause? Thanks for the help thus far!

They came gapped at .060, I checked them before I put them in.

Wires, you gotta change the wires when you change the plugs on these engines. Especially if they are high mileage and 5 to 6 years old. The wires may look great but you likely damaged them internally when you were pulling them off.

Which wires would you recommend? ACdelco or would I be fine with something like autolite's?

Uhmm... quality. Most high quality parts usually run a little higher in price, but well worth it. Give them a call they will assist you.

Ironically... the TR55.... the downfall is that you have to replace them frequently (30-35k)

Ouch! I'd much rather go with the standard iridium plugs and not have to mess changing them out so frequently. At least the plugs are fairly easy to get at.
