Got My 08 Sierra Denali Last Night

I'll get some pics soon but the ones I took in the garage last night didn't come out too great. Mine was built in Canada. Dealer was great (Jerry's in Weatherford). Got supplier pricing minus the $2K rebate, so it came in at $39K and some change (MSRP is $45K-something). Mine is loaded minus the 20" option, rear dvd, and rear power slider. I have the 2" leveling kit ordered and 20x9.5" BBS RD-Truck wheels/Nitto Terra Grappler 305/50/20 will be ordered today and hopefully installed by the end of next week. The dealer "did me a favor" and tinted the fronts for me...too bad it's the not a great tint job and the wrong shade (35% - legal vs 20% - what I want to match the rears). But I give them points for trying. I will remove all badging except the front grill as soon as I have time.

My impressions so far after only 50 miles. I like the touchscreen nav unit. I don't love the sound quality (it's just OK) but the head unit functions nicely. The ride is soft, almost too soft but I'm hoping the lower profile 20" AT tires will firm it up a bit. It's very quiet in the cabin, this is a good thing but it will take some getting used to. Parked next to my white 99 chevy the white on the 900 is much brighter/whiter then the 800 but the 900 while slightly wider then the 800 is actually slightly lower then the 800 even though it looks

igger and taller when not parked next to an 800.

Power and brakes seem very good but I'm going to give it a few hundred miles before I really get on it and try to break something :idiot: The universal garage door opener programming is absolutely ridiculus for programming a fixed code opener (most gates and parking garages are not rolling code). I was not able to get my parking garage programmed last night but I will try again tonight. The rolling code programs like a real homelink and is pretty easy (my private garage is rolling code). I program every dealership car that I keep in my parking garage and this one is the only one that's ever not been very easy to do. I'm disappointed that the factory nav does not have bluetooth, the crappy system in my Jeep SRT8 had this and the GM system is overall much better. I will probably add a Parrot kit pretty soon with the steering wheel control interface. Voice commands work but you have to hold the button too long to get it into voice mode, it's quicker and easier just to press the buttons on the HU to do whatever you would do with a voice command.

What's the concensus on where to hit switched power for a radar hardwire??? I know on the 800 I hit it in the box at the firewall left of the brake pedal. Does the 900 have a relay box there???

WOW, sounds like you have a MINT truck. I would love to see this white denali with 305's on it. It's going to look bad ass. I've got 20% tint on my silverado and it looks good. Congrats on the new truck. Looking forward to your pics.

Congrats!

This 6.2 doesn't like to be babied - give 'er hell! Floor it from a roll at about 10 mph and be prepared to scare old ladies and children. :idiot:

Nice truck. Mine will be the same except no Navigation. Since I live in Canada, my great deal is $51,500 plus freight, pdi, and taxes which comes to $59,664. And it comes from the same Oshawa plant. :idiot:

I'm not worried about the engine needing break-in b/c I don't believe new engines really need it anymore. I do think you still need 200-300 miles of break-in time to bed the brakes and heat cycle the tires a few times. I'm at 120 miles now, should have 200+ by this time tomorrow and the I'll let her rip. I like the way the Manual mode works in the 6-speed. It's not really manual mode in a literal sense but it lets you set the maximum

ear and allows for easy changes via the switch on the stalk. I like to be able t

hold a lower gear then 6th when in slow city traffic to give some engine braking when I let off (it's so much easier to tailgate the LLBs this way) :)

Been using the M-mode a lot myself for engine braking in town. Wish one could hold a gear and not let it downshift, get back our missing windshield upper tint, auto-up windows and puddle lights on the mirrors!

Congrats! Mines got 7Kmi. on it already. It does not like slow. Caught myself at 85-90mph today and didn't realize it till I did a double take at the speedo. Think I might need the detector too.

Want to have a little fun? Drop the hammer and be amazed at how fast the computer shuts off the engine at 95mph! And it feels as though it could very easily keep going.

My first impressions of the suspension was different than yours, I felt as though it was a little stiff. I have the factory 20's. It has loosened up to a nice ride, and have experimented that 36 or so psi gives the best ride for me.

I still don't like how the trans software forces upshifts, and decelling into 3-4th at 25mph is harsh which can lead to a clunk if you get back on it during this downshift, but it is what it is, my foot/mind computer has learned to give it a second.

Still, by far, the best car and/or truck I've driven in 25 years of driving.

Best of luck.

In the recent Car and Driver they put 40k miles on the Caddy Escalade with the 6.2. They measured it 0-60 and the quarter mile, braking, 30-60 and so on. At 40K miles it was faster than when new and stopped better??. So the computer is doing its job, learning from the driver.

Dont be affraid of gunning it from time to time so the computer puts these type of accelerations in its tables.

wish I had the 6.2

The Parrot kit will give you the ablity to use your existing bluetooth capable cellphone in your truck, muting the radio speakers and optionally using those speakers for phone calls.

My experence with my 07 Denali seems to match yours. My clunk was really bad until the dealer greased the slip yoke. The remaining clunk still bugs me.

I have never tried the Parrot kit, I hear it is pretty good. I installed the Motorola IHF1000 in my NBS. It came with an external speaker that you could use and the ability to wire it directly into the sound system and use the truck speakers. When a call comes in, it mutes the system and you hear through the sound system. It actually fakes the radio (NAV in mine, also works on non-NAV radios) into thinking that the Onstar system is working. Here are a couple of pics:

    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
