HI; I JUST BOUGHT A NEW 1500 WITH THE 5300 W/ FUEL MANAGEMENT; MY OLD TRUCK HAD MAGNAFLOWS; BUT IM NOT SURE WHAT THE EXHAUST IS GOING TO SOUND LIKE WHEN THE V4 MODE KICKS IN? LIKE A 4 BANGER? ANY IDEAS THANKS

It wont sound right because the exhaust gases wont be suffiecient to carry out the throaty tone the muffler is designed for. Its just something that you just have to deal with , but i doubt it will sound like a honda or anything.

Ray,

Stay with a reputable company that has designed a cat back system specifically for the 5.3 - 6.0 motors with active fuel management. If they don't make that claim, you have nothing to back up your complaint with, should you not be satisfied. As an early purchaser of a Gibson system I learned the hard way what an improperly engineered system sounds like when half of the cylinders drop out, and it is a mind numbing drone. I ended up with a little more costly system from Corsa and am finally content with the sound quality. Gibson in the interim has redesigned their system for the AFM motors as well. Check around and see if the others are claiming to have addressed the issue, surely make sure they warrant their claims.

I have the Magnaflow 16746 with dual side exit infront of rear tire in my NBS and it is definatley more noticeable when V4 kicks in. It doesn't sounds like a honda though it's a very deep rumble and it does sometimes cause added vibrations through out the floor and such. Overall its not annoying IMO it's just something you have to deal with when you have AFM. If your really concerned about it I would go with a Corsa or a company that makes them for AFM trucks or Just keep your foot on the pedal.

I have the 07 silverado 5.3 1500 nbs vin J. I put on a cat back 50 series(truck and suv performance) flomaster with mandrell pipes and it sounds like crap when the truck drops to v4 mode. Sounds like a d**n boat.

But I got myself a diablo sport predator tuner and had the guys at diablo create me an 87 octane tune with the afm disabled and with some adjust ments on the knock sensors like they do for the vets. 200% difference in the way the truck drives, shifts and performs. With the afm disabled the truck sounds phenomenal. The 40 series gives too much interior resonance. I had a 50 series delta flow which was great on my 03 1500 but the 50 series truck/performance from flowmaster sounds so deep and strong down low while accell but is very quite on highway speeds. Get an exhaust and get a tuner(u7194 predator) best investment you can make. Plus you can adjust almost everything with the tuner and all updates are done right over the pc!

PS dont be fooled by corsa or borla or any company that claims they can eliminate the v4 tone or silence it. Its all a gimmick. They ALL sound like complete crap and vibrate when in v4 mode

and with the tuner I get 2-3 mpg better than I did with afm as long as I keep my foot out of it!

Guys, I don't think mine has the V4 mode or active fuel management. Mine does have a 5.3L Flex Fuel and VIN#2GTEK133771615607. Anyways, I figured I'd ask for someone to tell me the difference if there is one. BTW, I'm having a custom cat back installed on Monday (3" to Magna Flow muffler and twin stainless tips).

All the 5.3 have the AFM(active fuel managment or some of the older guys call it displacement on demand) its when you truck drops 4 cyl and goes into a v4 mode on the highway or in town cruising speeds to reduce fuel consumption. With the stock exhaust it pretty good and you hardly notice. but with an exhaust its a whole different game.

I wouldnt go 3 inch out though. Your trk should be a 3 inch inlet and 2.5 out makes a noticeable difference with the sound

I'm in the USCG been in since 85 active. I plan on doing 4-6 more.

So I guess I need one of those predator tuners so I can shut off the AFM..or take a risk on a crappy exhaust at low or cruise speeds. Anyone got a video with sound, I mean is it that bad?

I wish I would have stayed in to get my 20! Trust me, the noise is THAT BAD. You also will feel it more as it kicks in and out of v4 as well. You can get a predator for about 369 bucks. Mine paid for itself the first day I used it. Besides diabling the afm the truck driveability is sooooooooooooo much better. I found mine on ebay from a guy who sold his chevy and got it for 180 bucks! If you go ebay just ask the seller and make sure it is unlocked and reset(he would have had to put his stock tune back in his truck to reset the predator) unless you buy a new one. The website is diablosport.com if you go to flowmaster you can here sound clips of the exhausts but I doubt you will find one of the v4 exhaust noise(it wouldnt be marketable for them if they did) I do not race my truck or look to really hop it up but I am very anal and like my truck to be responsive and sound good. The predator is just that. you can customize the factory pcm settings, install the 87 oct tune or 93 oct tune. By installing the 87 tune you gain 10-12 rwhp and gain approx 2-3 mpg better.

I absolutely disagree, I have the Corsa system and can barely distinguish between either mode other than looking at the DIC. I think others with the Corsa system will agree with me. If I had the drone for that kind of money, I'd be asking for my cash back.

Completely satisified :pimp:

i heard good things about corsa; but not actually "heard a corsa on a truck. does anyone know anything about the gm cat back? does the corsa rumble in the cabin? thanks

The Corsa systems are well built stainless steel. Mine in particular is the single exhaust pipe exiting on the passenger side, but breaks out into duals right at the tips. No excessive interior noise what so ever. At wide open throttle it is another story. Almost as if someone pulled the muffler off and it roars. Don't know how Corsa pulls that bit of magic off, but I'm impressed. If your interested, the system is available for around $650.
