1500 Steering Shaft Clunk Follow-up

Just wanted to provide a data point for those of you with trucks off warranty experiencing steering column clunking. Took my '06 2WD Silverado into Rally Chevrolet in Palmdale, CA for resolution. They fixed it, and said it needed a new steering column bearing, specifically GM p/n 88963617, "bearing." If this' the same bearing that prematurely wore out, I suppose this fix will last around 30K miles. I'm hoping it's an upgrade and it will last longer.

By the way, I was nothing but impressed with Rally Chevrolet's service. Took them about 90 mins to do the job, and they also provided a free 27 point inspection and washed it. They called me later in the day to get my opinion on their service. I'd definitely visit them again for service in the future.

I have been fortunate to have not been affected by this with my 00'. Ive read many different ideas or theories about what causes this, but it seems the "crumple zone", to save you when you get in a wreck is the most believable one. One reason i feel this was is because i have a 3" body lift on mine, in which i had to use a 2" or so extension that bolted between the split shafts. Like i said ive never had a problem, but then again i didnt have it for the first 60k miles before the lift was installed. ???? who knows and i do feel for yall that have this problem. im glad they treated you right.
