285's On 2008 2500hd

Looking for a new 2500hd GMC next year and was wondering if you can fit a set of BFG 285's with the bars cranked up without rubbing???

The short answer is NO! I just got my new GMC 2500HD and put 285/65/18 tires on Gear 18" wheels with a +25 offset. I thought they would work after reading all of the stuff on these forums. With the old body style many were putting on 285/75/16's with an outer diameter of 32.7. Stock on my truck was 265/70/17's with an outer diameter of 31.7. The new wheels and tires I put on had an outer diameter of 32.5, so I thought they would work, especially if I raised the front end a little. Well, I raised about an inch, and they still were rubbing slightly, so I'm going back to 265/70/17's. I'm disappointed because they looked sooo good and seemed to be the perfect size for the truck. GM has simply squared off the back of the front fender well too much, unless you're going to put a full lift kit on. I'll post pics when I have the new wheels and tires on. I purchased locally, so they were really nice and agreed to swap them out for me and realign the front end when they lower the t-bars back down a little.

my previous gen '05 2500HD has 265/75/R16 Bridgestone Duelers 31"s and it just fits, I have like 1/4 a inch of clearence from the front bumper to turn the wheels lol. Once I get a leveling kit i'm hoping my next set of tires will be 33"s

Just got new tires and wheels yesterday, I got 18"x9" Moto Metal 951Bs with 265/65-18 BFG AT KOs, they still rub. I have a +12 offset, with a 0 or negative offset it wouldn't even rub at all. I cranked the bars and it is not bad now. I think to fit 285s you'll need a lot of negative offset. Here's mine.

looks good!!! you didnt by chance try 285's with stock rims first did ya??? by the way, how do you like that 6 speed trans?????

Thanks! No I didn't try 285s. 285s will fit the stock rims, but it is not recommended, and I tow a large Toy Hauler. I like the trans, works good.

thats something I noticed on the new trucks, theres no trimming ( unless your brave enough to ) on my gen trucks the valance is seperate from the bumper and can be trimmed down to fit big tires, the NBS its square all the way around.
