Was just curious which engine you guys chose when getting your new truck and WHY? I have the 4.8, and am more than happy with it. That being said, my previous vehicle was a 2004 civic. Wish I had known more about the rear gear ratios, would have probably went with the 3.73 insead of the 3.42. Hope to hear from yall! :)

I have an 2007 Silverado and I made sure it had the 6.0L. It is a Vortec Max, I got a Vortec Max because I wanted the rear disc brakes. The mileage sucks though, it wastes a lot of gas and I hate all that torque management with the four second delay in power and I can't peel out because of all that torque management , but a tune will take care of that. Other than that I like my truck and I'm happy with my 6.0L and it got 3.73 gears.

I chose the 5.3 because I wanted AFM and with this motor you automatically get 3.73 gears instead of 3.42 (in a 4x4 anyway). When I think about it, my last three trucks have had the 4.3 v6, 4.8, and now the 5.3 -- so with each newer truck a bigger motor! I didn't learn until after I bought my 2007 that you could even get a 6.0L in a non-HD 1500.

I have the 4.8, because of cost, and the fact I would not need the extra power of a bigger V8.

I went with the 5.3L V8 AFM, tied for best fuel mileage with the 4.3L V6 but with more power. Since this was my first truck, I didn't know anything about gear ratios and got the standard 3.42 (but it also contributes to better gas mileage).

I am happy with my choice even though I wouldn't mind the 6.0L or the 6.2L. However, I know I don't have any need for the extra power.

I have the 5.3 I also wish I would have known more about the gear ratios I would have opted for the 3.73, but overall I am still impressed with the total package. I am waiting to get the edge evolution soon and see the difference.

I also have the 4.8L w/ 3.42's :) I guess Im happy with it though, I dont tow very often and when I do get something I have to tow itll be a few jetskis. I do like the 21-22 MPG I get on the highway though! LOL. Mybe next time Ill spring for the 6.0 or whatever they have when Im ready for a new truck.

I ordered mine with the 6-liter "Vortec MAX" for the power and torque!!!Plus I like the fact that it comes with the 9-1/2" rear-end and heavier duty transmission, also since I ordered mine with the stabilitrak it also has rear disc brakes.

I always get the biggest engine you can get when I order my trucks.

I average around 15.5-16 MPG city driving and 17.5-18 MPG highway driving,For the power I have I'm not complaining about the gas mileage.

i too have the 5.3; plenty of power but wish i had the 6.0 MAX; but its not available in the regular cab 1500 according to my dealer. i wish it had been available in a regular cab; i just like a sigle cab with short bed 4x4. i had an 06 extended cab; but never felt comfortable in it. the reg cab "fits me better" although i do miss the small back seat in ext cab. maybe one day they will offer more options like the "VORTECH MAX" IN the regular cab; something to compete with a ford lightning or dodge v-10; lol

I too have the 4.8L with 3.42, more than enough power for me :)

Got the 6.0 MAX for the extra power when towing. In addition, for the extra $1000 you get a heavy duty transmission, 9-1/2" rear-end and rear disc brakes w/ stabilitrak. I enjoy the extra ponies and with only 2000 miles on the truck so far, the average mileage on the Hwy is 18 MPG. Compared to my previous 1996 Vortec 5.7, I've got more power and better mileage.
