Ordered My New 08 Gmc

...and I can't wait for its arrival. :M16: I ordered the SLE2 crew cab in dark crimson, ebony premium interior, Texas Edition, 3.73 with locker, 5.3 FlexFuel, rainsense wipers, convienance package, trailering package, cargo mgt., EZ Lift Tailgate, etc. etc.

There is one thing nobody could answer for me, even the dealer. :smoker: I want the body-colored door handles from the factory but there is no order code for that. I does state that the molding and mirrors (DL3) are body-colored but no one knows if that includes the door handles. Can anyone out there answer this, will my new truck have the body-colored door handles? The order was just faxed in today so I can probably change it if I have too.

For those of you have ordered a new 08 GMC Crew, how long did you have to wait? :idiot:

Congrats, sounds like it'll be a beauty. I read someone else's order took 6 weeks... not sure if that is normal.

Yeah that is about normal for the order time to be picked up by GM and then manufactured, I do not believe that the door handles come in that color, I looked at all of the RPO codes and I do not see one for body colored door handles for the Sierra, could be wrong and missed something

That's the problem...no one can find an RPO code but the one I test drove as well as many others on the lot have the painted door handles from the factory but nobody knows how to ensure you get them. It appears that all the "Texas Edition" models have the painted door handles so I'm assuming that it is included with that package.

Thanks

I looked at the GM order guide and couldn't find a definete answer for the GMC's,Only the Chevrolet's.

To get body-color door handles on the Chevrolet's you must get the LTZ trim level, which on the GMC's would be the SLT trim level.

Maybe someone with a "Texas Edition" SLE2 trim package GMC can chime in.

My "Texas Edition" is a SLE1 and does not have color matched door handles. They're just unfinished plastic.

Congratulations on the new truck!

I ordered new Silverados' in 2001 and 2004 and they both took 6 weeks to be delivered to the dealer.

I'm itching for a new truck but will probably wait until January or February to order an 08. I may go GMC this time.

Thanks all for your info....now I'm hoping that the rebates/incentives will be the same or better when I take delivery.

So, how does ordering a vehicle work? Do you have to put money down or anything like that? Can you just totally walk away from it?

The dealer will build your truck with all your options, then decide on a purchase price (mine was invoice) After that they take some info and your down payment, then you wait till its built. (at least this was my experience)

I put down $500 but some other dealers i checked into wanted $1000.

Mine was quoted at 6 weeks also. GM's sales are slightly down from last year so that helps. I can remember having to wait 4 months in previous years.

I made them agree on invoice pricing before I even sat down in the chair. Then we went through the build process, which, at the time, I knew better then them (back in Jan). I ordered the very first GMC Vmax in the Twin Cities, I spec'd it out on a Sat and he had to wait until Monday to place the order, the first day the 6.0 Vmax was available for order on the GMCs.

So Lisa, how are ya liking the new truck? Get it out of the garage yet? Scrape up $380 and get that Edge!!! seriously! Or check out the new Diablo Trinity, that looks cool too.

    • Without knowing how bad your banging is, one suggestion is the intermediate steering shaft on the steering wheel. These used to be a problem on 800 and earlier series. The feeling/sound was sometimes described as "clunking" and was felt in the wheel. Also there is a plastic piece in the lower column that is referred to as a bearing. Not your traditional looking bearing though. Your ball joints, bushings and tie rods or steering rack (if equipped) are the main point of issues. You never mention total unit miles, only that you've put 60k on it.   You can search the site for help on the ISS description. Plenty of these have been replaced   https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=site%3Agm-trucks.com+intermediate+steering+shaft&ia=web
    • Yes I have is set with the 1mm disk (Minumim Tension), for spring spacing and I raised my truck in the rear 1.5". You can go 2mm  and I think 3mm if you need.Minimum. We are on our way to TN from GA.. My wife is driving and stated she cannot believe  and   stated she can not belive the difference.
    • Most 1 ton trucks come with the factory overload spring, which need to be removed for installation of RoadActive Suspension. Removing the overload allows proper fitment and ensures the system works as intended. The RAS® Mega-Duty kit will reduce squat and provide significant improvement vs the factory overload spring.
    • I wonder as well, why they would send me a text message with links to these suggested procedures totalling over $10,000 without even the slightest hint of how they arrived at these being necessary.
    • https://precisionlubrication.com/articles/oil-filter-efficiency/     For them it is a problem of $$$$ and compliance. To cover both they have to lie from the heart.    Government wants low waste oil numbers so the bar needs to be very low on contamination to met that requirement.  Consumer wants cheap maintenance (perceived cost). Again requiring a low bar.  OEM wants high margins at a cost effective warranty rate and lots of repeat customers. More low bar.  Filter manufacture wants the same thing the OEM wants. See the pattern?   Consumers are fickle and also want perfection requiring a HIGH bar. Inconsistent with all of the above. Consumers can be, when the put their minds to it, inquisitive, love winning arguments which requires some useful information to be available to support them. And this is where it gets sticky and the lies begin.    Information needs a solid well grounded point of reference if we are to compare in a useful way. There is a standard for this.  ISO 4548-12. This standard sets the particle size at a specific Beta ratio and darn few are faithful to its intent.    If they don't state the test method they change the particle size or the Beta ratio to hit a perceived favorable standard. They obscure the information in a way as to prevent direct comparisons leaving the consumer with one method. UOA's with an ISO 4406 test result. Pricey and not allot of labs willing to do the work. Lobby work happens everywhere, not just at the seat of government.
