Autoride And Weight Distribution Hitch Won't Work Together

I have a 2007 Denali XL with autoride. My drawtite bars are 1200lbs. No matter how I adjust the hitch, it is not working. I have been towing for 40+ years and never experienced any thing like this. I tow a 24' enclosed trailer with a 3100lb race car in it. My last two trucks were a 2002 and 2004 surburbans and could pull the trailer at 80-85 mph steady as a rock. The best I can do now is 65 and if a big rig passes me, it will almost blow me off the road. I have so much pressure on the bars that I have to jack up the trailer and hitch just to get the chains to reach. All I can think of is to pull the fuse on the autoride. Any help would be welcome.

I wish I could help you. I pull a 29', 6,500lb camper with my Yuk XL with an Equal i zer brand WD hitch and it works great but I do not have Autoride. I have never heard of this happening before.

 

Are you using any type of sway control or just the WD hitch? The reason I ask is that most WD hitches do not have built in sway control, they simply redistribute weight. The Equal i Zer and Hensley would be the exception to this.

 

Just asking if you are using any type of friction sway control?

No I have never used any sway control ever. When the bars are set up correctly, you can not feel the trailer behind you at all.

 

Guess all of the GM Techs are on vacation this week.

Does any one know if pulling the esc/alc exh fuse will damage any thing?

If you can't get an answer here, you might try posting your question over at the www.rv.net forum. Those guys over there tow campers all the time and there might be someone around that has an autoride.

I tow a 28' travel trailer with Autoride and it is the best tow vehicle I have ever had. There is a specific procedure in your owners manual for using a weight distribiuting hitch with Autoride, look it up.

Dan, That is the first way I did it. How much tounge weight do you have and what does your TT weigh? May be I expect to much because I have been towing heavy trailers for a long time know how a good set up should perform.

Actually, I also have an 2005 Yukon XL 2500 with Autoride suspension. Wich is different from the Autoride of a 1500.

 

I pulled a 6500lbs trailer with an Equa-L-izer without any problem even at 130Km/h (I know, I shouldn't go that fast with a trailer)

 

The Equa-L-izer is a weigth distribution system and an antisway all in one...

I'm anxious to hear how this turns out. I want to tow with autoride also. It mentions in the manual (from recall when I read it yesterday, correct me if I am wrong) to connect the trailer (without the load bars connected) and let the autoride adjust. I expect that this means to connect it, then start the Denali so the autoride sets. Then connect the bars. I expect you need to turn off the Denali before connecting the bars or it will change again, negating doing it this way to begin with. I don't have a travel trailer yet or I would give it a try. It seems to make sense so you can get the bars set right. I'm guessing it will either go perfectly for me when I get there or I will have problems like you are expressing. I expect once the bars are set right (as well as the other hitch adjustables), that you could jsut hook it up and go from then on... keep us posted.

I just looked in my manual for my Yukon XL 2500 with Autoride. It appears that there is an auto leveling option on 1500's that require the special procedure. I thought at Denali was a 1500 and it may have both the auto level and autoride.

I dont know when it began, but mine has autoride and it is an 01 2500.
