i have a 2001 sierra sle and most of the lights are out on my stock stereo. i can't see the buttons any more when driving at night. i was just wondering if anyone had this problem. i figure the stereos are just junk and i'll have to replace it.

yep your assumption is correct, these radios lights either burn out or the buttons begin to wear off showing the underlying plastic. happened to my dad's 2001 Cavalier, if I can, I will post pictures of the wear....

my four buttons for a/c, re-circ, rear defrost, and the other one are all burnt out and the seek button on the radio is showing the white, cheap plastic beneath it. my passenger heated seat button light is burnt out as is the swictch for the lights as well. 2000 gmc yukon w/ 120,000 miles. i want to know how to atleast replace the 4 burnt out buttons but knowing gm, im sure you will have to remove the dash or something to access those bulbs.

you really cannot replace those bulbs without ripping up your radio and having some soldering skills, if I remember correctly, when a bulb goes out while it is under warranty, the whole unit is taken out and completely replaced, same for the rubbing of the paint off the buttons.

I've got some pictures lying around of my LED replacement process, but It's not too hard if you know how to solder. Or even if you don't buy in bulk and figure it out. Pretty much all my lights were out and after 2 motnhs of procastinating I finally sat down and finished the HVAC in a night. Theres a tutorial on the stereo here. Let me know if you ahve any questions. And the dash is pretty straightforward to take apart, GM did good.

mine didn't wear, they just started going out. at 75k most of the preset lights were out. its pretty lame now in the dark, i guess i'm not the only one.

I just replaced my IPC and the HVAC controller for the same reason, and I work at the dealer!
