Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on my truck went out. The truck is a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3 L V8.

I was told I needed a fuel pump module. ACDelco was the brand I was recommended. How much does brand make a difference? Also - this is what I was considering purchasing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250179460459&rd=1

or this one:

My next question concerns the first ebay listing: it doesn't say that it's the "fuel pump module", but it does say it comes with a sensor. Is this the complete package I'm looking for?

Is the last item a piece or do you think it's credible? Some of these questions I've asked the sellers but I'm in a hurry (need truck back ASAP) and thought I'd hit up these boards.

Thank you in advance,

Johnny

Hey, John, doing the ebay thing with something like a fuel pump would worry me. I'd go to a CarQuest and get a brand new Delphi unit from them. Don't go cheep on your FP it's not an easy job and you sure don't want to have to do it often.

Good Luck Man!

I have to agree 100%. It's not a job you wanna do again in two weeks.

and usually places like advanced and autozone slap a warranty on the fuel pumps. I dont know if carquest does for sure but I think they do. Before I got married to my wife she had a ford Escort and I rebuilt the engine for her and then the fuel pump went out. I went through like 4 of them in a 3 month period of which auto zone switched out for me everytime. It wasnt until I figured out that the heater core was leaking onto the computer and shorted out the fuel pump or at least disabled it until i put the new computer in it!

Mine went two summers back.

IMO - hit your local auto parts store. Mine ran $220 or something like that.

The main problem ordering online if you get to installing it and there is a problem, you're screwed. You may pay a little more going local, but the peace of mind is well worth it.

The independent shop who works on mine said ALWAYS go with OEM on the fuel pump. They are huge GM fans, and have seen aftermarket stuff go out in about a year. Too much work to replace. :happysad:
