My New (to Me) Truck

Howdy everyone! I just found this site and have spent the last 2 days reading every thread I can. I just bought a 2006 1/2 ton CrewCab. It has 39k miles and I got it for just under $19k. Blue book showed value to be at around $23,500 so I feel I got a good deal. I had a '98 C1500 with 172K miles on it. I thought it was going good until one day a few weeks ago had some trouble while going down the highway. Got it to autozone to have codes read and they said cylinder 7 misfire. Finally took it to my mechanic and he said it was basically fubar. It would cost around $2700 to rebuild all valves or a new engine with 70k miles on it would cost about $3100 to install. Well, the truck really wasn't worth that much more so I traded it in and got the new one. I love it. I have 2 small kids so they fit nicely in the back. And if they are good, they get to ride in the backseat.

After finding this one, I took the truck to the mechanic to have it looked over and he gave me the green light on it.

I'm sure you'll hear more from me whenever I need to fix something. Hopefully it will be awhile. The only thing I have done so far was to add an alarm to it. Don't want this one getting away.

Nice truck, and good buy. Do you have any plans for this one? The popular mods for these trucks are exhaust and a tune or programmer for performance. Welcome to the Forum, there are alot of knowledgeable people on this site.

What exactly was your truck doing that made you take it in?

Well on the highway we heard a short rattle then a pop. I didn't notice much difference except a little struggle on inclines or acceleration. Then when I got off the highway and got to a stop light, I would have to give it gas to keep from dying at idle. Drove it home, which was 100 or so miles. Got to AZ and they ran the codes, cylinder 7 misfire. I checked plugs and wires, all were good. Changed those out about 6 mos. ago. Took it to the mechanic and he said no compression to cylinder 7. Then he took off the head cover and said that #7 valve "had basically been sucked into the engine a little". I asked him about fixing just that one and he said he could but the others looked pretty bad and that I would be back in a month or 6 months having it done to the others. So he gave me the quotes on the fixes and it wasn't worth it to me. I had hoped to get about another year out of that truck but so be it. The paint was in bad shape and it needed some other minor work. Trade in for it was anywhere from $3500-4000. So I cut my losses and decided if I am going to spend that kind of money it would be better on a newer truck.

I was asking because in my truck I have been having hesitation in the engine on low rpms at highway speeds. But when I give it more gas it is fine and goes away. Acceleration is normal as well as oil consumption and fuel mileage. I thought that I had it figured out to be carbon build up... I ran some seafoam through the throttle body and it blew out some nasty crap and seemed to run alot better. If I can remember I just put new spark plugs and wires along with cap and rotor... Fuel filter is newer as well. I mean I guess it could be the cat because I had the other one already replaced. I mean I think that I have like 20-30,000 miles on plugs I guess they could be bad, but I am used spark plugs lastiing like 100,000. The truck does have about 190,000 miles on it so who knows.

Thanks. I really like the truck. The only thing I have found so far is that when I hit any kind of bump in the road I hear a "jingle" sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. It is really annoying me. I will have to really get under it soon to figure out what the deal is. The brakes also squeal sometimes when braking as well. Although I checked the pads through the wheels and they look good, sounds like it could be the typical squeal I have read about on here.
