Tnr800 & Ipod

Hey all,

I've read and searched and read all over this forum (and elsewhere) and haven't been able to find the answer I'm looking for. I apologize in advance if I've missed it and this is old news.

I just put a TNR800 (non-lux) in my 04 Silverado (Bose, Onstar, and XM) and it works great; love it. But I'l also like to connect my iPod using a Perifieral Electronics adapter or something like it. My question is, will the TNR recognize it and be able to get to it through the 'cd' button? The TNR doesn't have an 'aux' button (nor did the radio it replaced).

Also, the truck did not have an external cd player or changer before or now.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

The higher end ipod interface will connect to the XM connections on your radio!

That's how mine is hooked up and sounds better then if connected to the CD changer connection. Mine comes up as XM1 or XM2, works on both.

Goto this link and find the interface for your radio. There are cheaper ways as most on this site will tell you, but this is the easiest way... plug and play!

Wow, that sure looks like the answer! That's exactly what I'm looking for, I'll give it a try.

Thank you very much!

I was thinking about doing the same thing. This maybe a dumb question, but XM will still work correct? I definitely like my XM, but would like to have the option to use an IPod.

Yah it will , you have to do some extra wiring, cut and splice the Data wire from the XM reciver, but the instructions are all there.

I had to use my old FM transmitter yesterday in our work truck... OMG my iPod adapter hook up sounds sooooooo much better!

Well it's time for me to give back. I've been trolling these forums for a month or more gleaning valuable information. Thanks to everyone for their expertise.

I had installed my TRN800 a few weeks ago and it has worked wonderfully, but I missed having my ipod tunes available. Saturday, I tore into it to install the VSS wire, and while I had it aparty decided to see what I could do about the ipod. I was going to go with the advised interfaces earlier in this thread, but in the other side of my garage was my corvette with the iSimple ($99 from Best buy) already in it. Since it was installed in the trunk, it'd only take 5 minutes to pull it and try in the Silverado, so decided to give it a try.

I unplugged the XM from the radio, plugged the PXHGM3 harness into the radio, then plugged the XM harness back into the PXHGM3. Only hitch was there wasn't enough room to mount the box behind the radio or heater control, so I had to lengthen the wires on the PXHGM3 cable to allow mounting of the box in the console.

Bottom line is it works terrifically. I'm very happy with the sound and ability to control the ipod. I wasn't sure the TNR800 'cd' button would bring it up, but it did. The nav unit recognzes it as a cd player and all the buttons (including steering wheel) work. Switching to any of the bands turns the ipod off then back on as they should. The ipod turns off when I leave the car and comes back on when istart it again.

Anyhow, if you're looking for an ipod solution for the tnr800, I can vouch this one works and works well!
