New Guy Saying Hi

Hey guys,

I'm new here and finally looking for a new truck and something bigger than my little rice burner. I've had 3 brand new Fords in the late 80's and they were very dissapointing to say the least so I went to Toyota.

Now I'm interested in the new Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 engine. I was looking at them but I need a 6.5' bed on the Crew Cab and they only offer the 5' 8" bed.

Now I have heard that there are plans for a 1/2 ton Duramax next year and I was hoping they would increase the bed size on the CC to 6.5' and maybe add an upgraded tranny.

I was wondering if any of you have heard of any additions for 08 or 09 like a longer bed and a 6 speed tranny for the 5.3?

I also looking for any feedback you may have as far as likes and dislikes on the 07 or 08 1500 Crew Cabs and what kind of mileage the 5.3 is getting and how you like the power and ride of the vehicle.

I do not think that the 1500 crew cab will be offered with a 6.5 bed due to the fact that most of these vehicles are garaged and will not fit with that configuration. I did hear that GM was considering dropping a diesel in the light duty trucks, but not sure if it will materialize.....

I have an '04 EC with the 5.3 and love it. All the power I need. I got an EC to have a 6.5 ft. bed, but wish not I would have went with a Crew for rear seat leg room. I get about 15-16 mpg city. A buddy of mine has an '02 GMC 2500HD CC with a flowermaster exhaust and gets 14-15 with a 6.0. Might be a thought going with the 2500 CC 6.0 to get a 6.5ft. bed.

Welcome to the site, there have been rumors of 6spd tranny in the near future but who knows when that will be? A 1/2 ton duramax has also been tossed around I know dodge does it but it seems pointless to me you'll never be able to use that engine to its full potential on a 1/2 ton chasis atleast in towing or payload aspects. My only complaint about the new trucks is the Active fuel management where it drops down to 4 cyl. while cruising but to me it never seems to hold your speed. also the torque management seems a little over done other than that there great trucks and the 5.3L has plenty of power and will last you a while.
