7.4lt Gmc C3500 Idle Rough

I pulled up at a stop sign Wednesday evening and my 1997 gmc 1 ton crew cab started idling rough. I pulled out on the highway it ran rough. Thinking that I may have some bad gas, I filled up with 91 octane and put some b-12 in the tank. Drove on home and back to work next day but had no improvement. While going to work I did notice that it would backfire a little while changing gears. I changed the plugs and plugwires and air filter. May say it helped a little but still has the rough idle and strong smell of gas. The engine runs strong. Any suggestions?

I would check for a sticking choke, a fouled plug, or burnt plug wire.

That was what I was thinking. Turned out to be a bad distributor cap. Thanks for the reply.
