Belt Squeak On 6.0l...

I've noticed lately that the belt area on my truck (6.0L) has a squeak between 1500 and 500 RPM's. It seems to be most evident on damp or rainy days, when the temp is colder. It isn't like a constant squealing, it's like a squeak that coencides with the speed of the engine. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Thanks,

Matt

After changeing out the belt 3 times on my '05 6l, I found out on here that GM has a bad supplier of one of the pulleys. I think it is on the alternator. The dealer has a fix for it, but you need to ask. They say it is something to do with the pulley not being welded to the shaft, it is only pressed on and the flange gets worn and will eventually squeak like all hell!

I needed 3 trips to the dealer to finally figure this out at 40 miles each trip. It got very annoying and costly for fuel, even though their "shots in the dark" were warranty issues and covered. They changed belts, and changed the idler pulley before finally finding the real problem. Do not let them just spray on belt conditioner!! That was my first trip to the dealer!

GM has a problem and they know it, they just don't want a class action recall.

I wish I had more specifics for you, but this was almost 2 years ago and i cannot remember the specifics. But after fighting the problem for a few months, when they FINALLY figured it out I have been trouble free since(**knocks on wood**)!

If you do a search, I think I posted about it when it happened.

Keep us posted what you come up with.

There's a TSB out for the A/C tensioner assembly. Change that and the A/C belt, good to go.

This is easy to pinpoint as well, remove the main belt, then start the truck.
