Im stumped! I have a 2002 silverado 2500hd with the 8.1.The past few weeks,on 2 separate occasions,id be driving at a normal speed,then out of the blue,id lose all power for s spit second,in the same manner that occurs when you go over the speed limiter,and the fuel cuts out.But i dont think its that,it seems more like some sort of a short or something,and i do notice the battery light coming on in the message center when this happens.Has anyone experienced this before,or happen to know if theres a service bulliten on this? I dont know if its because i have a cheap battery thats on its way out,i do notice the battery light staying on for a second or 2 longer in the message center when i start the truck,or is that normal?

This will be a phantom. You have a short somewhere as you suspect. It is one of the worst types of problems to track down.

what you are experiencing is the slow gradual death of your crank position sensor. This is an often-discussed problem and the solution is well accepted. Eventually it will fail and u can't start the truck. get it fixes soon. its a PITA to get to the sensor, as its at rear of the 8.1 right up next to the firewall. Most shops can do it for about $250. Its tricky and care must be exercised or old parts may fall n to the engine and that is bad.
