4.8 Water Pump Replacement

I have[ a 99 silverado w/98k.The water pump has sprung a pretty good leak,what brand is best for replacement?should I replace the hoses and themosta also? thanks for any advice

I would go with an AC Delco pump. You can find them at a number of places so you don't have to go to the dealer.

 

With 98K on the truck, it would be a good idea to replace the radiator hoses and as many other hoses as you can get to. The stat should be replaced too as the housing has to come off anyway.

 

Does your motor have the hose that connects the rear of the cylinder heads like the 5.3? Get a replacement for that too. If the coolant has not been changed, it's easy for coolant to crystallize in that hose and cut the flow of coolant.

 

Get a new serp belt for the accesories and the A/C too. Check the tensioners to make sure they are still keeping the belts tight. You have to remove them to get to the pump, so it might be worth replacing them at the same time.
