2002 Blazer Rear Brake Rotors

Hello everybody,

So I have managed to pull off the caliper and remove the old pads, but how does the rotor come off? (it needs resurfacing) Its loose, but something on the inside is holding it on. The only thing left to take off is 2 bolts where the parking brake cable attaches, is that the next step? After quite a few hours on the internet, I found soemthing called drum-in-hat brakes, but nothing on how to deal with them (without the special tools). I'm assuming that the parking brake pads could be holding the rotor on? Everyone I talk to says to "give it hell with a hammer", but I think this could possibly damage the parking brake.

Thoughts?

Thanks a ton!

Chris,

Make sure that the parking brake is released....Then try to pull off the rotor....If it dose not come off the you will have to figure out how to unadjust it so it will come off. You usely can back off the adjuster with a screw driver.

Good Luck....Keep us posted...

I think there is a "star" adjuster inside the parking brake assembly. It should be accessible from the back of brake assembly thru a small slot towards the bottom. There should be a rubber cap to keep gunk out. Remove the cover and you should be able to use a screwdriver to rotate the star wheel to allow the parking brakes to come together so the rotor can slide off.
