New to the forum and have a couple questions about the '08 2500HD Sierra I have on order!

1) Need to know how much more towing power I will get with 4.10 axle ratios . . .and is gas consumption really that much more?

2) Is the turning radius on a crew really that much worse than an extended?

Thanks!

1) More towing than what, the 3.73s? You can only get the 4.10s with the 6.0L.

2) Depends on which wheelbase you have.

I would go talk to your salesman or at least get a brochure. I wouldn't order a truck I knew nothing about.

Apparently there IS a choice. The truck I test drove had 3.73s and the salesguy told me not to go to a 4.10 due to gas consumption. I have ordered it, at the moment, with 4.10s but can still change . . . .(it is yet to be built)

Wheel base is 143 with crew cab. I don't remember it even being an option? I don't think I'm going to change that now, though. It can't be that much different than an extended.

The sales guys are morons. I have been to 4 dealerships and nobody knows much about trucks nor do they seem to care . . . Odd. Horse people tell me the gas I'd lose going 4.10 is not much when compared to the amount of truck I'd lose if I went 3.73?? Sales guys don't know.

On a HD the wheelbase on a CCRB is usually 153 (My 06 was that much), HDs only get 6'6 and 8' beds. A 1/2 ton CC however only gets the 5'8 so that's where you may've gotten your 143" from.

If you're gonna tow, I'd get the 4.10s. Yes, you lose a bit of gas mileage but it pays off especially when towing heavy loads, where the extra power will help with some economy (the 3.73s would make the engine push harder to get a load moving).

And naturally yes the turning radius is more on a CC than an EC, The ECRBs are 143.5" and a ECLB is 157.
