'78 Chevy Rear End Question

Recommended Posts

I put in some new U-Joints in my truck and noticed the ft yoke on the rear end where the u-joints attach is loose. It seems to be loose inside the rear end - Can this be tighened up or is it time to go out and find another rear end? What would happend if i left it alone and keep on driving it with this loose? Will it lock up?

Do you mean the rear u-joint that attaches to the rear axle?

If there's any play there DON'T DRIVE IT! You either have the wrong u-joint or the yoke has been damaged. If the yoke is damaged take the truck to an axle shop and have them replace the yoke. It won't be too expensive, and far cheaper than a new rear axle.

Define Loose, Does it move side to side, in and out or have a lot of play when you try and turn or twist it left or right?
