I Need To Know Something.

Ok, if I go to GM and say that I have very very harsh shifts from the 1st gear to the second gear (jerk), will they do something about it? It's getting really annoying.

Couldn't hurt..

2 jobs ago we drove 97 F-450s Power Joke Diesels, and all the trannys had very bad shifting issues after 30,000 miles, took them all to the dealer, they said "Its normal" and that was the end of that. All 4 had to have Tranny Rebuilds before 60,000 miles.

Our 2002 Avalanche 5.3L/4L60E was flawless in every way for the 33k we had it. Our 2004 Suburban, with the same drivetrain, has always had a weird and very hard shift from 1-2 if you're light on the throttle, or moreso light and then let off at all anywhere around that shiftpoint. Seems to vary at times, and sometimes is shockingly/worryingly a hard thud...but fine thereafter and before.

That said, it's my mother's, and she wondered about it, but never took it in or mentioned it to the dealer...and it seems exactly the same now at 54k as it did new. If it were me, I'd take it in now under warranty and inquire about any hard/weird shifting, etc., ESPECIALLY if you can go drive another on the lot and it not exhibit the same symptoms.

When it shifts from 1-2, I sometimes punch the gas or let off it and that was it doesn't sometimes jerk. Does anyone know what transmission my truck has?

either the 4L60 or the 4L80, PM me your vin and I will give you the specifics on your build if you want........

i think our v maxs have the 4L80 and it shouldn t be that harsh. Mine wasn t and when I had my aftermarket ecm/tcm tune I had them firm up the shifts but it s still not harsh. Take it back.

It has the 4L70E, which is a HD version of the 4L60E. Evidently, it doesn't like 2-a-day burnouts. GM will back it up, but if I were you, I would build up a tranny before beating the s**t out of it in the future. Just don't blame GM or hold it against them if you have tranny problems after posting about doing burnouts twice a day and wondering if it will hurt your tranny. Just some friendly advice.

My truck has a 4l60e in it. I find it jerks a little from time to time. if I hit the gas a little hard on takeoff, the trans doesn't want to go into 2nd and bucks a little. I also find it hunts for gears, like it doesn't really know which gear it should be in at a different position of the peddle.

I don't have an extremely harsh shift though. Your 2nd apply servo could be screwed up. Or you could have some of the passages clogged inside your trans causing excessive line pressure. ( wouldn't be uncommon if you pound on it a-lot)

I don't do burnouts -.- I baby it. never ever s**t kick it. Only did like 2 burnouts since I got it.

Aren't you the one who made the thread awhile back asking if doing burnouts would hurt the tranny? Apparently not, sorry 'bout that, I thought it was you.

Yes it was me. I was just curious since I see other people doing it all the time.

Regardless, make an appointment and take it in. They could say it's operating within specs, but if you can drive another one on their lot that is better/without issue...they can more readily see the light.
