2003 Silverado 2500 Power Window Just Broke!

Hello,

 

Well I went to roll down my window this morning and all I heard was a lound noise and then just a free turning motor and yes the window did not move. It is cold and I am not sure what it could be? I have also heard you will break parts getting the door panel off? Does anyone know what it could be? I could at least pick up the part and be ready to go. As I said the motor runs, but seems not to be attached to the window. Also if anyone knows how to remove the panel....that would be great. Thanks!

if the motor can be heard running .. but the window does not budge at all ... here are a few things that could have happened

 

stripped the gear on the motor

stripped the gear connecting the motors gear to the cabling

broke cable (likely not this if the window is still in place and not flopping around)

 

your best bet would be to locate in a junk yard the whole window crank assembly ... with the channel, cable and motor ... not sure if the gears can easily be seperated from the parts .. but it may be easier to just swap out the whole part instead...

I had the same thing happen to my 1991 GMC passenger side window, I replaced the motor and it was fine. I bought the passenger and driver's side just in case, but sold the truck and still have the driver's side motor. They are mirror image of each other. I drilled out the rivets and replaced them with bolts and nylock nuts for fasteners and never had any problem with it after that.

welllllllll... im sure if you grab the window wit ur hands that you could move it up and down???? if you can then you need a regulator... the cables that move the window up and down break and will cause that... actually just replace the regulator, im sure thats what it is .... it really easy to do, dont be afraid... heres the procedure

 

 

1. Remove the door handle bezel. Refer to Inside Door Handle Bezel Replacement .
   
2. Remove the door trim panel upper extension. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Upper Extension .
   
3. Using a suitable flat bladed tool, gently pry the manual lock lever from the door trim panel.
   
4. Remove the trim panel screws

   • Remove the screw (2) from within the opening where the manual door lock lever resides.

    

    

   • Remove the screw (3) from the opening in front of the armrest.

    

    

   • Remove the screw located beneath the map pocket, if equipped.

    

   
   

5. Carefully slide the trim panel up in order to release the retainers from the door.
   
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
   

 

 

1. Raise and support the window glass.
   
2. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .
   
3. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door .
   
4. Disconnect the harness from the electric window motor assembly.
   
5. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the window glass to the regulator. /servlets/RetrieveTif?pic=348453
   
6. Remove the bolts from the window regulator.
   
7. Remove the window regulator assembly from the door by folding both sides of the window regulator assembly together.
   
8. Remove the window regulator motor. Refer to Front Side Door Window Regulator Motor Replacement .

Installation Procedure

 

1. Install the window regulator motor. Refer to Front Side Door Window Regulator Motor Replacement .
   
2. Position the regulator to the inside door structure. A slight twisting motion of the regulator is needed.
   
3. Ensure the regulator is positioned firmly in the door. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
    
   Important: Place Permatex Threadlocker, Part Number 24200, GM P/N 12345382, onto the regulator bolt threads prior to tightening.
   
4. Install the bolts to the window regulator. Tighten
   Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
   
5. Align the window glass to the regulator.
   
6. Install the bolts that hold the window to the regulator. Tighten
   Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
   
7. Install the water deflector. Refer to Water Deflector Replacement - Front Door .
   
8. Install the trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .
   
9. Lower the window and inspect the operation.

Hey,

 

That is what I thought, but the window is fixed and will not move up or down, so would you say it is the motor that has a gear stripped? Cables must be ok.....

i would say that if you hear the motor running and the window doesnt go up or down, then you probably have a broken regulator, but since the window is stuck and you cant pull it up or down by hand it could be somthing else...

but i garantee you it is the motor or the regulator, you have to buy them separate.... you'll have to take it apart and take the regulator out and examin it, see what is going on... or just buy them both, the motor is the expensive part, the regulator isnt to much...
