Need Some Help!

I have a NBS Silverado with the 5.3 L engine. I had a Flowmaster catback system put on with the 50 series muffler. I have way too much resonance in the cab. I live in Pittsburgh and there are a ton of hills where the exhaust note becomes way too loud. Other than a new system, what can I do to quiet the exhaust down? Would the 70 series muffler help?

If flowmaster has a quieter muffler, you could try that. Or add another muffler/resonator... and/or add a resonated tip. That would help.

 

But if you add/replace too much stuff, then it ends up sounded too "muffled," it wastes more cash, and maybe even adds uncessary weight. Personally, I'd just replace the exhaust system with a Corsa. It costs a bit more initially, but at least you won't be wasting $$$ trying to get rid of drone and making it sound good/loud. Their Sport system sounds good, it's loud, and no drone.

I have a 70 series big block II muffler (single in dual out) on my truck and I would consider it to be pretty quiet. It resonates some on my truck between 30 - 40 MPH in overdrive, but I would never consider it to be loud or overpowering. I don't know what differences there would be between having it on a 350 versus a 5.3 but overall I would consider it to be a pretty quite muffler.

I have a 50 Series Big Block that seems to be the best of both worlds; decent rumble with not too much drone at highway speeds.

Also a few things to keep in mind. The exhaust will definately sound different depending on what vehicle it's in. In my experience, the 5.7 just sounds great with any muffler. Take that same muffler, put it on a 5.3, and instant drone and/or buzzy type sound. Put it on a 6.0 or larger, and you get crazy drone all over the place.

 

And, some people just don't notice the drone or it simply doesn't bother them. What sounds good to them, may be quite annoying to another. I know I've pointed it out to plenty of folks when they didn't really think anything of it. Personally, I'm very picky when it comes to noises... and I hate drone.
