Bored Throttle Body

My '97 Suburban 4x4 has a Superchips handheld program, K&N air filter. It's always run pretty good. Since I've had it, I run Sea Foam through it fairly often. Use Amzoil with Wynns friction reducer and replace the O2 sensors every 50K miles. Two years ago I seen a fellow advertising bored out throttle bodies on ebay. I ordered a 75mm unit. Took about 5 minutes to install. Have to swap the TPS and idle control. Otherwise it's an easy swap-out. This one mod alone has made the biggest improvement on my truck. I wouldn't take it off if someone paid me. Since then I have bought a few for friends trucks and they like the results. Biggest bang for the buck there is. There are two large black tire marks in front of my driveway now...kind of an appreciation I guess, for the helpful tip. If any of you decide to do this, don't come by my house and light 'em up ok?:lol: Does it hurt fuel mileage? Seems to have helped mine, after I quite racing around. We are getting hit with snow right now so I had to drive 70 miles to get my 19' 3500lb Ranger Bass Boat and pull it back here to store it inside. That's 114 miles plus about 50 miles of city running around on top of that. The tank was full when I started off, it's right at 3/4 of a tank now. I've made that same drive many times over the years, it's never done that good on gas. Any of you guys installed one of these? It gets rid of that deflector on the underside of the throttle blade.

The OEM MAF & TB supported up to 8.1L engines and a larger TB reduces bottom end throttle response. All a larger MAF or TB will do is help power at high RPM's some where around 4500 RPM's & up. How often do you get to take advantage of it?

Try one on your truck and come back here and tell me if you noticed anything. I'll give you your money back including shipping. If your truck is 2000 or newer, it'll cost you $138 plus a core charge of $35.00 and no, I'm in no way connected with this person selling these.

:D:) Why would you give him his money back if your not involved in the selling of these???

That rumor is just that. GM had a problem on the TBI engines with throttle response and put the variable cam bell crank on.

As for your statement about WOT yes its true and yes i have tried it BUT these vehicles are trucks & not race cars. What you your doing is hurting drivability and economy.

Seeing that i am 20 years older and have tried things you haven't thought about i will let you learn for your self.

I had to laugh a little at your post redvett. You see. Rumor has it when GM was testing the '96 Vortec engine. Socker-Moms complained that the gas peddle was too responsive and they did not like it one bit. So GM engineers thought up this restriction deal on the throttle blade so the gas peddle would less responsive. I knew right away you have never tried this because your comment that "all it does is help top end" is the opposite of what it does. I learned about this on my own, not some internet forum guys telling me their opinion. I'm 47 years old and have worked as a mechanic most of my life. I got out of automotive mechanics 20 years ago and work as a CNC machine mechanic currently. I built a 355 chevy engine for Hot Rod Magazines "Engine Masters" special edition where my engine produced 530hp on pump gas and under $3000 with stock cast iron cylinder heads.. I have some credentials to my name.

Yeah dude I think that I am going to get one! I am always lookin for a little more hp... I want to get shorty headers, possible electric fan. But I think that I am going to go for that 75mm bored throttle body.

I pull a landscape trailer around a lot of the time with a John Deer 52" Z-turn riding mower, 48" walk behind, 36" walk behind, 2 push mowers, 2 blowers, and all the fuel to keep me from the gas station for a week or 2...

What I have done to my truck is added the Throttle Body spacer, k&n air filter, mass air flow sensor, programmer on 93 Oct., and high flow cats...

Redvett is being very modest here. He worked for the General for several years and from what I know was heavily involved in the engineering and development of the trucks and engines you are are discussing. He likely will not share this with you and may not be happy that I am telling you this.

Not taking sides here and if the TB Mod helped your truck, that is great.

Wow. This whole thread looks like an ad. Now were even getting ordering information and auction details about the product...which is given after the miracle super performance and economy mod story.

Why would GM care about soccer moms complaining about a responsive gas peddle? I doubt if a few soccer moms whined about a touchy gas pedal they would re engineer the TB blade. These are trucks, mostly driven by men to do truck stuff. Granted a few soccer moms drive Yukons and Suburbans, most of these motors were in pick up trucks, were more sales came from and still do. That has to be the most unbelievable rumor story I've heard.

Well then, stick with yer trick carbon fiber blue plug wires, chrome dip sticks, Xeon headlight bezels, triple carbon fiber stick-on cup holders etc. Yes the throttle body works good BUT don't listen to me. O'le red there knows what's best. You guys just keep the blinders on and enjoy what you have. Remember, red'll tell you where to go.

My camshaft works excellent. Proven horsepower at the drag strip. -.3 with a mild daily driver cam, on a year old mail order tune. I can't wait to tune for it. Probably drop another .5 - .6
