Programmer Or Chip?

is a programmer and a chip the same thing? if not than what is the difference? Does anyone know what the best programmer for my 2005 gmc z71 is to get me better gas mileage?

there is a difference between a programmer/tune if that is what you are asking. A programmer reprograms the PCM. A chip can do the same thing and/or replace it.... Programmers do not do as much as a custom tuned PCM.......but they are cheaper for the most part........

OBD1 1995 and earlier used chips for tuning. OBD11 1996 and later must have the PCM flashed tuned by a hand held programmer or replaced by a custom tuned pcm. Or you can go to a dyno tune shop and get your pcm tuned in person.
