i have a 92 silverado with a 90 350 w/ fuel injection

i have absolutly no power! and i dont know what to try next, just the other day i had my bright kc lights on and i pissed a guy off in a mini van and he flipped me off and i wanted to be a dick and just couldnt do it my truck cant go any faster than 75 and its just screaiming in the passing gear. i only have 33 in tires and it isnt like it that different from any other truck like mine, mine just seems to be a dog and always lacking power

i scanned it with a scan tool at school and found no codes, and i just had the tranny rebuilt not even 1000 miles ago.

Have

K&N Air Filter

Trans Dapt TBI Spacer

Hypertech Power charger

Jegs Ram Air Tube

3.46 gears - pretty sure, its not the z71 so i think thats what it came with

Not Sure Of

MSD Blaster Coil/Ignition

Hypertech Streetrunner chip

K&N Induction - Not sure how much more that will do

i dont know? looking for sugestions

idk if i have something broken or something wrong with the truck that is causing a major lack of power but would really like it to change.

Im new here but looking for some advice, thanks.

That IS being a dick.

i took it to a transmission shop and they said its because the tourqe convertor is locking up after 45 miles an hour. so i might just put a switch to turn it off and on. that i know will help but kill my gas milage.

Still looking for some help. Thanks

Turning off the TQ will burn up the transmission. The truck was probably going 100 mph or close to it but tire size changes the calibration.

BTW there is no speed limet in the USA over 75 mph so cool it. Save your life and ours.

i was expecting some help here but wow absolutly none. i have had the speedo calibrated already, so i know its accurate. the tourqe convertor lock up happens when your going over 45 mph so the motor and transmission are going the same speed, if it doesnt lock up then idk it never used to until i had my transmission rebuilt and my truck had way more power over 45 than it does now.

please help here!

The monster stacks aren't helping with torque any. I'd ditch them, it's a gas truck anyways. Little here and there mods will be unnoticed, go for something like long tube headers or a cam. Horse power costs money.

The torque converter doesn't matter, it will unlock once you drop the pedal anyways. Mine locks up before 40mph during regular driving.

Your biggest killer is your gears. 3.42 gears aren't the best for acceleration. 3.42 gears with 33" tires is a killer on acceleration, the first thing I would do in your situation is swap out your 3.42's for some 4.10's at least, with those tires I'd look into 4.56's. Then get some headers or a cam swap.

how much hp would a set of headers actually gain you? currently i have 2 1/4" coming out of the manifold and then it runs behind the rocker panels where there are a glasspacks (1 on each side) and then goes about 2 feet and then a 90 right into the stacks. would a set of shorty headers be about the same as a manifold so i dont have to have another exhaust bent up? and what cam would you recomend? i Drive 15 miles to school and to work everyday, almost never go offroad, but sometimes i find some mud. the motor is a completly stock 350 no work ever done to it. not to worried about gas mileage as long as it gets more than the 10 im getting now.

And for the gears, im guessing thats whats in it, im not 100% positivly sure but about 90% sure because its a 4x4 not the z71. and dont you think 4.10's are a little too much i only have 33x12.5x15 tires on. but soon i want to get 35x13.5x15 toyo's.

i was also thinking about a k&N open element filter and get rid of the tube coming from the fender, since i have a body lift there is a lost more "air" in the engine bay, and gets more coming in..... idk if it will do more harm than good, but thats why im asking.

after all said and done what would you start with?

Gears, or Headers, Or Cam?

p.S. i unplugged the connector going to the tranny to control the TQ convertor lockup, and drives 100% better. way better acceleration, drives way better, and sounds better.

IDK if you posted about this earlier Schmid, but how did that cam swap go?

Went good, could have been done in 1 day, air tools help tho!! My nitrous kit should be on it's way now, hopefully it gets here this weekend, it should the company is in Pennsylvania. It will probably be here next week sometime

I have 3.73's and 255/70r16 tires (29" maybe?) and turn 2100~ rpm @ 70. With 4.10's I might do 2400 @ 70. With your 33's and future 35's, you'll be happy you got the 4.10's, 3.42's aren't ideal for acceleration with those tires. Going from 3.42's to 4.10's would really make a noticeable difference in acceleration and overall power.

Don't waste time on shorties. L/T headers might net 15whp. I'm not very familiar with tbi motors, so I don't know what cam to recommend.

A K&N won't net much power, but might give some better throttle response.

From what I have read, if you are going to get a CAI, get one that doesn't have an oiled filter. 9 times out of 10 you will over oil it and the engine will suck the excess oil into the engine and clog up the MAF.

how much is a set of gears? 300 bucks? becasue i dont travel on the highway barely ever, and im not looking to race the truck im just looking for some more power.

Headers - $90

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku

What do you think about them, i know there steel and not going to last as long as aluminum or stainless, but im only going to have the truck for a few years so i dont need to go all out.

Shorty Headers - $160

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku

My only question is wether they will bolt up the same as the manifold im taking off or do i need to modify the exhaust to acomodate these?

Gears - $140 (Set is that for front and rear??)

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku

i know i have to get exact spline, and i think its a 7.5in?

Open Element Air filter - $140

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.a...mp;autoview=sku

If possible could i have some advice on the items i listed above, and/or if they are worth that or i could get it cheaper here or there or a better brand here .....

thanks

I have 31.6" tires (265/75/16) and my 3.73's aren't enough gear for my tastes (1900rpm@70). Those 33"s are killing you and 35's would make you a slug. Number 2, the 350 in stock form is still a slug itself and probably needs a bit of back pressure which those stacks aren't giving you. Honestly your probably not even putting 160hp to the ground with that setup.

Definitely go with gears first. If you do mostly city driving you may even pick up a couple mpg.

Think about your setup right now.. You have no backpressure with your huge smokestacks which hurts your torque. You are trying to push 33's with interstate gears. Also the TBI 350 is by no means a powerhouse.

I would regear to 4.11 or 4.56 with a locker, get some longtube headers, and trash the stacks. While you have your exhaust all apart it would be a good idea to check your catalytic converter to make sure it's not on the verge of clogging.

i dont have any cat's in my truck. but i can put mufflers in, they are round tractor mufflers that drop down the stacks onto the 2 1/4 pipe coming into them and in like 5 min i will try it i have to drive on the high way today. + they give it a nice deep sound ot it

i going to check out some 4.10's - any place i should look, or a good brand i should buy?

im getting the impression i need gears, i know for a fact i dont have 4.10's but is there a way to check and see what it does have i didnt have this truck for all 15 years it was made.

and if somebody could get me a link to a good ring and pinion set that woulde be very helpfull then i know how much i need to spend and what to buy

92' - 1500 - 10 bolt
