Service Items To Address

Just bought a used GMC 2500HD 6.0L 4x4. Any thoughts on what I should replace? look for? any help to keep this truck running strong for the next few years?

Do you know if it had the 100,000 mile service done? If not, I'd do the plugs, wires, oil & filter, tranny fluid & filter, take a look at the belt and change if it's deteriorated, air filter...pretty much anything you can do without taking it in to the dealer. How does it run and shift? Congrats on the new ride, it should serve you well.

Wow, that's high mileage for an '01. I'd also change fluid in the differentials and transfer case, check the brakes, and grease the suspension and body (hinges and latches).

Yes it is high miles, it had a hole in the bed from a fifth wheel (I welded it up). So I assume the miles came from the highway. I only paid $12,000 for it, loaded. It drives great, shifts great, goes into 4lo/hi fine. I hope to put it to good use, over the next few years.

 

I will be doing a complete fluid change to AmsOil, for everything. I did notice some grease build up at the transfer case, if I remember correctly it is at the input (could be output). Any thoughts on that?

 

Geasing the suspension; what and how do I do that?
