Volant Intake Installed On '04 5.3

I helped my buddy install a volant Cold air intake on his '04 silverado today. He said he felt a little gain. Well the box said 22hp not up to it said gain 22 hp. He wants to know if anyone that has a 5.3 with volant intake and also has the poweraid or other brand throttle body spacer installed...I said I'm pretty sure the spacer is a wast but ok I will ask. He owned a dodge ram in the past...by the way he had every upgrade besides supercharger and he said his silverado stock with 20s is faster....but to get to the point he liked the whisle the TBS gave off. He just wants to know if the spacer with volant intake will fit. Me I got the 4.3 so all I got is the hypertech because I'm getting new tires soon but if you guys could answer this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Matt

His 04 has a mech fan and a shroud I am sure. If so, the spacer likely will not allow room for the Volant tube. If he wants to hear the whistle, he can try it but you can read post after post where the spacer offers absolutely no benefit to the 5.3.

Other than the whistle of course, if you can call this a benefit. :)

If he wants to add an electric fan setup, and cut the shroud a bit it will fit, but as C&A said, stock form it will not fit.

As for the 22hp gain, he'll never know unless a dyno comparison was done. It has to be brought back to stock, ran on the dyno for a few runs to get a baseline, than install the parts to see what the gain was and where, more than likely, its in the 4000-5600 area. It does add a nice growl to the engine though, and he probably added a little to the lower end, maybe only 5hp or so, but its something.

4-wheeler mag did a dyno comparison on a 2002 blazer 4.3 with an intake and found it gained 12 hp and 10 ft-lbs so for an engine that makes near 2X the power stock, I cant see why 22hp wouldn't be conceivable.

As much as i hate to admit it i did have a TB spacer. Not only did i have a TB spacer, i also had/have a Volant intake with Ram tube. And believe it or not when i added the volant CAI to the TB spacer it did make a difference. BUT NOT IN PERFORMANCE. The whistle got a lot louder, sometimes louder than my exhaust and tires, it was annoyingly loud. The larger amount of air available with the CAI plus the straight intake tube w/o noise dampners really "brings out the whistle" in the TB spacer. Needless to say i gave my TB spacer to a friend and opted for the Radix

TB spaces are a waste of money on EFI vehicles. Unless of course you drill and tap them for a no2 line :D
