In-laws 2003 silverado has a loud POP when its heating up or cooling down.. Its the exhaust.. but dealer (still under warranty) said... can you guess "Its normal".

However, I also have the same truck and mine has never done this.

Its annoying... any idea where this couldbe happening? (Can never seem to time it right and catch exactly where the pop is coming from..)

Typicaly when a car cools down after driving you may get some thermal snaping/light poping...

This is a pop/bang when the truck is cooling down that sounds VERY loud..

My guess its a baffle in the muffler maybe hitting the outer case??

any help is appreciated!

This is a very common issue... most cars and trucks have this problem to some degree. It's likely a heat shield popping with the expansion and contraction of the metal. I guess in a way that would be normal.

Sometimes just a little repositioning of the shield can make it go away. A rubber mallet and a few whacks will distort it a little... sometimes making the pop go away completely. On a 5 year old truck it is possible that something has broken loose inside the muffler... Hard to make that call with the information we have here.
