Stock Ac Delco Battery

Recently picked up another Mustang to play with and the truck has been sitting for 3 days. Got in and it would not start. It is 3 years old now so is it about time for it to go or should it still be kicking? It holds charge fine as long as you drive it every other day but if it sits its dead... theres nothing pulling power either.

Something is draining the battery. Or you don't have a good battery.

Do you have anything aftermarket?

My 1990 Chevrolet 1500 4.3 Regular Cab Long Bed original battery lasted 10 years. Can't say as much for the batteries afterwards.

I did have a replacement AC Delco battery do exactly the same thing, though. Let it sit (in winter) and it would be run down. Recharge it and all was fine. Then sit awhile - dead/weak again.

I opted for a new battery. AC Delco replacement battery was still under warranty - but near the end. I just moved on.

Take it down to Auto Zone or your local parts place. They will do a free load test on it.

Most batteries I have had in the last 20 years or so... three or four years is about the life span of them. There have been a "FEW" exceptions.

I agree completely. I think you just need a new battery.

Living in Colorado with frequent temp changes all the time, 3-4 years is about all I will get out of any brand of battery. Probably time to replace it. How many miles are on it? Might coniser having the alternator checked as well, GMs alternators usually last between 80,000-130,000 miles before going kablooey.

It has 37k on it. 05 model. I am pretty sure it is the battery. I cant seem to find anything else that would be draining it so I guess it has served its time.

What does the voltmeter say once the truck is running? You could have a bad alternator too.

Don't mess with taking the battery out and going to a chain parts stores. You need to have the entire charging system tested. A reputable shop will do a battery load test and test the charging circuit to see what is really going on. They will test with the engine off and agin while the engine is running.

It may be cheaper to buy a multimeter and test it yourself if you have a basic idea of what you are doing. If not, c4cruisers idea is probably your best bet. On a side note,the last vehicle i purchased had an intersate battery in it and if the sticker date was right, it lasted for over 8 years. Could have just got lucky on that though, im not sure.

I had it checked out today. Battery failed load test and alternator was good. I am just a couple hundred miles out of warranty so I am going to ask the service manager Wed to help me out on a battery.
