Any Updates On Steering Wheel Clunk?

I know GM put out a new steering shaft that's supposed to fix the clunk for good. Anyone had it installed and is it doing the job?

Yup, Had mine replaced last Jan. Its working like a charm.

had mine replaced @ 15361 miles and 22151 miles, each time it has been with the 'new one'. as of now, working just fine.....

I installed the newly designed GM I-shaft about 6 months ago and it's definitely an improvement over the original, BUT I still have some knocking. I just received my Dorman I-shaft today - hope this does it.

Mine's been fine for about a year with the new shaft.

They were supposed to have put in the new one for me two months ago, but the day I picked it up it still had clunking in it. I am having it fixed again and also I found that my steering wheel itself moves up and down when in a locked position, which compounds the noise and also at times moves by itself so they better fix that too.

Also had mine replaced back in Feb '07, no issues yet. At least not with that particular issue.

Know what's really weird? I bought my 2000 GMC Sierra in fall of '99 and I had the steering shaft issue before it was a commonly known issue (winter of 99-00). My dealer knew about it though, and replaced it with a new one and in 7+ years, it never was a problem again. I guess I must have gotten lucky.

Dealer replaced it 7K miles ago, and havent had a problem since.
