Torque Specs?

I ordered my drop shackles for my 06 Rado. I looked around dealerworld for the proper torque specifications, but I cannot find them, can anyone help?

(posted a pic of the OEM shackle, difference in torque specs for the lower and upper bolt?)

UUUUMMMM? I don't know I only come up with one spec for both. Try this, go into SI, in the search type spec you'll see a bunch of bullitens ignore that then sections. Scroll to REAR SUSPENSION then under that specifications. Looks to me like 70 for shackle to frame and same for shackle to spring. I don't know if drops would change that though.

 

Off topic I can't seem to make those vin cards smaller either. Looks like you'll have to go with the mirror.

Mike, there isn't any real lateral stress on those bolts. They really just act as locating pins (or pivot points) so a good tightening with a couple of wrenches is all they will ever need. Do make sure that you have the rear end on the ground for the final tightening. You need to leave them loose until it is sitting on the ground so that the bushings are not under a twisting load.

Yeah I have tried scanning the vin cards using 3 different scanners in the house, no luck (too low resolution), but I will try to use my professional digital camera (same I used for the close up of the Rear wheel well and OEM shackle) to see if I can get a good resolution. As soon as the BellTech drop shackles come in, I will install em (provided it is warm enough) and take some pics as well.....

Well an update:

 

I got the drop shackles today (pics are below) but when I went to put them on, I found that the rear spare tire had to be removed and the trailer hitch (in order to remove the trailer hitch, one had to remove the spare tire.), so I spent 3 hours trying to remove the d**n hitch and just got finished. I am having to post pone the install until sunday (provided it is warm enough) since it took me so long to remove it.

If anyone else is considering installing drop shackles, make sure you have clearance if you have a hitch (if equipped) because if you dont, you will waste time taking it off. I know I should have looked at it closer but my excitement got the best of me.

 

 

 

One question though, should I use a c clamp to keep the oem shackle from popping out?

I am not sure if this well help, but when I did mine I did the following:

 

Remove hitch

Swear at how heavy the hitch is falling on my chest

Loosen all the bolts from the shackles with the truck on the ground

Jack it up

Take off old shackle - it did not pop off, in fact, I had to tap it out with a hammer.

I guess I was lucky considering what you went through, I have two floor jacks and 6 4 ton jack stands and I had to use 4 of them just to remove the hitch (talk about heavy).....those pesky bolts attaching the hitch to the frame were a bi**h to take off. I ended up busting 6 of the eight bolts. I actually left everything off for the time being. Thanks for the info, I will let ya'll know how it goes (hopefully).

You DO NOT need to remove the hitch completely...all you have to do is remove all the bolts for the hitch (3 each side) except the 2 that connect it to the bumper. Then you just loosen those bolts and watch the hitch start to angle down...keep loosening the 2 bolts until you have enough clearance to remove the lower shackle bolt.

 

btw....you will have to jack-up the diff and remove the upper shackle bolt above the frame rail.

 

If you have anymore questions just ask...I have installed many of these on silverados
