Synthetic Oil Question

I just purchased my truck, a NNBS 2007 Silverado.

 

I also purchased an oil change plan with the dealership. I took my previous vehicle there anyway, so I figured it's prepaid now.

 

The service guy says this includes conventional oil. Synthetic is an extra $6 a quart. Is it worth it?

 

I asked about Royal Purple and he said they don't have it in stock but could order it.

I would not have the oil changes done by the dealer or a quick change place. Heard too many horror stories of screw-ups done by young low paid staff. For $6 a quart you can buy Castrol Syntec 0w-30 at Autozone and do it yourself. This is a true synthetic and runs great in our trucks. You don`t even have to jack the truck up. I am 270 pounds and can fit under my 2WD NBS without jacks. I go 6 months on the oil change interval or until the oil life monitor runs out. This is about 8000 miles for me. Keep in mind most, not all, dealerships will buy their oil in bulk and buy whatever is cheapest. You may not be getting the best protection available.

I'd take it in and have the oil changes done that you paid for, stop sweating unnecessary small stuff, drive it 50,000 miles, and trade it off just like I do most every truck I buy. It's just a truck... they will always make new ones for us to buy.
