Interior Led's Won't Power Down Completely.... Anyone?

I put interior LED's throughout the interior of my 07 classic and after the power goes off they don't completely power down. Has anyone else had this problem? They are 194 SMT Led's from v-leds.com.

I've got LED's all throughout my truck and they all turn off when they should... It sounds like when you installed them you tapped into the wrong positive, possibly something that is always on. Are you running in series?

Sorry, to clarify, LED bulbs, for the interior dome lights and map lights. Just replacement bulbs, no new wiring. I have the same LED bulbs for use on the exterior of the truck ie. license plate, and side markers, and the same bulbs will completely go off when the truck is turned off, but the interior bulbs wont. Its almost as if the bulb has a capacitor in it and is running (very dimly) off some sort of stored energy.

Try taking a multimeter to the socket when the lights are supposed to be off.... This dosn't really make much sense, is it still doing when you put the original bulb back in?

Considering the interior lamps have some sort of dimmer ckt it is possible that there is some leakage current that is not enough to light a lamp but will light an LED.

I have LED's all throughout my 2007 GMT900 with no such issues. I'd take out one bulb and hit the empty socket with the multimeter. If you fin there is a leak, put the regular bulbs back in and head to the dealer.

Exactly, My friend has an Acura TL with the same problem . . The LED's wont pull enough to be a problem and he just leaves it partially lit. . . I think it all depends on the type of LED bulb it is and who makes it (meaning size of resistor etc)

 

I say just leave it in if it isnt too bright.

Its true, some LEDs for interior lights will run very, very dimily. Not an issue at all. My 2007 Dodge Charger has LEDs that I installed for the interior. They also will intermittently run very very dimily when off. Incandecent blubs aren't able to "glow" with that trickle of power, but LEDs are able to light. There has been quite a few post on the dim LEDs at chargerforums.com, where I am at for my Dodge.

what are the part numbers for all of your leds?

The LEDs are from v-leds.com and clear4speed.com. both are 194 SMT and festoon SMT bulbs. the standard filament bulb does not glow when the power is off but the LEDs do glow, dimly. I swapped the factory bulbs back in last night for fear of draining the battery, would the LEDs draw enough juice to drain the battery overnight? or over a couple of nights?

My LEDs did that once when we had lots of heavy rain and [i guess] moisture got into the circuits.

 

I wouldn't worry about draining the battery unless you let your truck sit for weeks at a time. Keeping the factory incandescent bulbs instead of the LEDs is just as bad though, because if there's power flowing through the bulb, the filament will still give off heat, just not enough to make itself glow.

Nope not unless they are drawing alot of power (think of a flashlight with LEDs and how long you can literally leave them on), unless your battery is almost dead already. I would say you could probably leave them alone for an entire week if not more and would still be fine.

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
