Please Help With Tire Choice!

I posted in this section hoping to get more responses.

Ok, I am getting some new tires very soon, and I have it narrowed down to these 2.

Both are right around $650 for some 285/70-17's so price between the 2 isnt a factor.

Which will last the longest?

Perform best in mud?

Wet weather traction?

Id like to get input from anybody, but especially owners.

Thanks for help.

I have the A/Ts. They do wear a little on the choppy side, but show me a all terrain tire that doesnt or any all season. They have awesome traction in snow, ice, and mud. Even rain they are great in. They wont spin unless you want them to.

Well, I am a bit partial to the Firestones due to the Tirerack reviews, but I want to see what the Kumhos are about.

They look more agressive than the Firestones and might just perform better. Im not sure though.

They clean out well, which I hate when im driving after I washed it in a little mud. I have been off roadin with the tires already, and the only thing is sometimes in a certain type of mud, it will spin on rocks, until it gets a good line going. Ive done pretty much what anyone else would do to the tires, burnouts, skids to avoid near crashes, off roaded, drove over nails, glass, sharp things, drove on ice, snow, rain etc, and all in all, its a great all purpose tire and they have held up pretty good so far..

Those Kumhos are quite a bit more aggressive. They are rated pretty well by their owners. I'm sure they will be a little harder riding and louder because of the tread type. Especially after you get 10k or so on them. On the plus side they are probably better in really deep mud than the ATs are... but I can go just about anywhere in my Jeep with the Firestones. (and the ride is excellent).

Stay the F away from the firestones! They've always been OEM crap like general tires. If you really want a good AT tire dish out the 800 bucks for Revos or Michelins.

I know my friend has the Destinations on his Duramax and he loves them! I bought used BFG's and only paid $200 bucks for them with 3/4 tread left. I think that they are good tires but very costly when brand new. The last time I checked the Destinations one of the best ratings out there. I think that the BFG had a rating of 4.0 out of 5 and the Destination had a 4.5 out of 5!

I am going to buy destination tires the next time I need some!

I had a set of Kumhos on my Explorer back in the day...They were outstanding. They wore well driving around town, and did extremely well off the beaten path. I had that truck through a foot of mud, on the sand dunes of Lake Michigan, and through multiple feet of snow. It came down to HP with those tires. So long as you keep them spinning, they will clean themselves out just fine.

They were loud as hell on the pavement though, but they are a mud tire, you know? That is my .02

Stay the F away from the firestones! They've always been OEM crap like general tires. If you really want a good AT tire dish out the 800 bucks for Revos or Michelins.

Zach... judging these tires because of the old OEM Firestones is like saying Jessica Alba is ugly before you meet her because you once saw her fat cousin Rudolpho...

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos......

I have a set of fhese on my 99 Z71. Got them at Costco about 3 1/2 years ago for $460 out the door. So far with 35K on them, they still have over 60% tread left, they are very quiet given the tread pattern, they are excellent in wet or snow, and have great dry grip. I can toss the truck into corners and the tires simply dig in and hold.

There have been lots of discussions about tires here and it seems like the Revos are very popular as are some Michleins, BFG's, and even Goodyears.

I dumped the OEM Firestones as they had horrible feedback, they felt loose, and the wet traction was poor at best.

As far as reading reviews on the Tire Rack site, IMHO, you have to take those with a grain of salt. Most people have no real way to compare a variety of tires in order to make a decision. A lot of those people writing reviews simply like what they bought because it was better in some regard to what they had. At least here, you get a variety of opinions about different tires. And I have not seen a lot of favorable reviiews of Firestone tires.

The reason why you dont see many good firestone reviews is because since the ford firestone issue they lost a lot of buisness. But people still buy bridgestone, which is the same company lol

I know they're not all equal, but I had such bad experience with Firestone steeltex ATs that I couldn't ever in good conscience recommend another firestone.
