Advice On A Car

Been needing a new car for the wife and went and drove a 07 Impala LT3. It has 10,000 miles on it and they are asking $18,500 for it. How reasonable does that sound to yall? How much more do you think we could talk them down? They said that price was the bottom price, but they always say that.

Check out KBB and Edmunds to see what it's worth. Then see what other similar cars are going for in your area. But I'd always offer them less. They'll normally meet you half-way without too much trouble. If they won't go lower, just walk. That car is way too common not to keep shopping around.

Wait till the end of the month to buy it and see if that price will magically be negotiable.

Only problem with that is the interest rate will be higher by then. I guess what I'm looking for is what would be a good starting point for negotiations on our end. I was thinking calling tomorrow and offering $17000 for it and see what happens.

Get financing through your bank. I know that once I get a loan approval through them, the rate is locked in and good for 30 days.

Plus, you have the added benefit of the dealership not knowing how much you can afford. There no way I'd have got the deal on the SS that I did if they knew that I could have bought the Corvette sitting next to it.

Well, just found out I can get financing with 0% interest indefinitely, so no worries there. Mainly, I am just wondering how low to start the bargaining at so I don't get screwed too bad.

18,500 sounds a little tough for a car with 10K on the clock. The Dealerships around here are advertising 08 Impalas for 16,985. I realize this is a base model and not an LT3 package.

You would think the price would be at least 4K off sticker + some deprciation for it having some miles.

Nice car and you will like it if you get it worked out.

Does 0% save you any money when you pay $4,000 too much for the car because they know you can afford it?

I've never done that math, but I just like to take my personal financial situation completely out of the equation with the dealership. By doing that, I pull one more card out of their stacked deck in the car buying process. How much money I make or what I can afford is absolutely NONE of their business.

The new Malibu is getting alot of attention.. I think we may have an Import fighter here...

Looked at the malibu and it just wasn't as comfortable as the impala (the impala was loaded, malibu wasn't). Unfortunately, when we went to make an offer on the car, it was gone. Apparently an older couple bought it on friday, took it back on saturday because the kids thought it was too much car for the couple, then the couple came back today and picked it back up for $20,000. So right now the dealer is searching for another one that is cheaper...

Have you looked all over carsoup? The impalas are everywhere. If your dealer won't come down on a price you want go to a different one.
