Recall Part Help

So, I got my recall part for my Instrument Cluster Panel (ICP) only its about 15000 miles late and a dollar short. Do any of you have any suggestions about fixing the ICP short of $500 (that's what the dealer is going to charge to fix)?

Is there a way to order part and either replace myself or hire out?

I thought the dealers were fixing these for free?

You can buy an SS gauge cluster or escalade cluster programmed for miles and hours for $300 shipped off ebay...brand new.

Warranty or not if it is a recalled part the Stealership should handle all of it and they will bill GM - I think they are trying to screw you...

NOT a RECALL, only an enhancement (TSB) - Recalls are mandated by govt, TSBs are only by manufacturer

yeah, I know, I have a 1993 Cavalier that had a recall for the brake lines (I cant remember what was wrong with them) but I went to the dealership with the recall letter in hand (over 12 years old) and they looked at me and said '"we have to order the parts, but it will be installed in a day or so once we get the parts in'. dropped it off and a couple of days later, picked it up and didnt pay a dime for the repair. But the look on the faces of the dealership personnel was too funny......they looked like they were spanked bad and also had the deer in the headlights look......didnt mean any offense, but I WISH it was a recall, then there would be no argument of time/mileage. my sincerest apologies for my earlier comment.

I thought the letter I got said that they would replace the instrument cluster for free, Unfortunately I threw it away because I traded the truck 5 months earlier for an 07.

Yeah they will fix it for free if it is under 70000 miles. I have heard from a few members of the forum that have got some luck with getting GOOD service managers to replace for free after 70000 miles. I swear to you guys it was like a fluke the speedometer always fluttered but the day I got the letter it quit. It was more like a teaser. The reason they set at 70000 miles is because that is when this BS starts happening, and they have the nerve in the letter to tell you that if you are under 70000 miles and are not experiencing problems not to take your truck in. I don't know maybe I will be able to get this thing goodwill repaired, I just have to find the right dealer. I am also considering a 2500 cluster with tran temp gauge if I am going to have to pay for one.
