2008 GMC Sierra Regular Cab Long Bed 4x4 WT

Power Windows.

Drivers side. All sides actually, but I only use the drivers side.

Cold weather. Frost on windows.

Power windows do not operate on frost mornings. Light frost. Heavy Frost.

I am afraid the power window motor will become inoperative or break.

One morning, after warming up the cab and going for coffee, I left the window partially down. About 20 minutes. Upon return and starting truck, I then attempted to close window. The black plastic piece of molding that rests on outside bottom of window of truck rose with the window as window came up. The black plastic outside molding came off. The outside black molding was replaced under warranty.

Any suggestions in frost cold weather? I can't tell if all window sticks (froze) or just glass part or bottom part. But window will not go down in any kind of frost weather. Is there any glass treatments? Molding treatments? Chemicals? Anyone else having this problem in cold climates?

Mine froze a couple of times but not bad enough to knock the trim loose. Had the same problem on my '97 1500 but wasn't power windows.

Looks like the trim is retaining moisture and when the temps turn cold freezes to the glass. Next time you wash the truck, dry the glass and run the window down & up. You will see what I mean about the trim holding moisture. I used rain-x on the old truck or maybe try some spray silicone to keep it from sticking.

I have also had a few problems with the windows freezing shut from just a little frost when going through Timmy's drive thru. Guess those power window motors just arent powerful enough.

this isnt a dealer issue. all the truck from GM since 2001 have had this issue for me as well.

not lgith frost, but really cold mornings, snow, freezing rain soemtimes. usually it takes a abotu 10 mins with the truck running then i can open my windows with no issue. i never really thought of an issue. some of the other car brands in my family, (Mercury, Ford, Dodge) all share this issue to some extent.

seems like normal operatign procdure to me.

Yes, true.

But most if not all of the Japanese cars I have owned never had this problem. Either the power window motor was more poweful on those cars or the felt/rubber/plastic is less condusive to sticking in frost weather.

I will try, as mentioned above, some silicone spray on the black plastic trim. I also wondered if RainX or some such glass product would help prevent glass from sticking in frost.

Hmm, that's probably the same reason my windows get wet everytime I roll them up/down even through they were dry to start out with. Everyone says it's that little black piece around the window. Hearing this story almost makes me glad to have manual windows. Too bad I couldn't have a power window on the passenger side and a manual on the drivers side. Rain-X may be worth a try, but I doubt it will help that much. I used to use it on my car and it didn't seem to affect frost on the windows.
