1993 Gmc Jimmy Starting Troubles

OK 1993 GMC Jimmy 4dr SLT 4X4 4.3 v6, here goes when I turn the key the battery sounds dead it tries to turn over then just stops no clicking no noise just the sound of a dying battery but when I turn the steering wheel to the right or to the left while turning the key it eventually starts like it is jumping the amps up someone told me it may be in the ignition wires but I checked them and they are tight and connected well so now I am trying to figure out if it could be anything else your help is much appreciated
