Thinking Of Buying Acadia

Thinking about getting an '08 Acadia AWD SLT1 w/dvd. What do you guys/gals think of yours? Has anyone had the factory headrest dvd screens installed?

We've had our Acadia since early September and don't have a single complaint and the wife loves it (me too). GM's Lambda triplets (Acadia, Enclave, and Outlook) are great vehicles.

We went with an el-cheapo, portable dual-screen DVD system in ours since we felt the price of the factory jobs are getting a little rediculous. Yeah, there's wires to deal with as opposed to the nice integrated factory stuff, but I can't argue with saving $1,100. But it's your car and your money, so do what you want. We had the factory DVD system in our'02 Odyssey that was replaced by the Acadia and loved it, but this time we decided to spend the extra money we saved on the Dual-scape sunroof. :tear:

Well, I wouldn't personally want an Acadia, but they're really nice vehicles. :tear: I think you'll find the DVD integration on a rather luxurious vehicle is worth the extra cost. Nothing worse than a cheap looking strap on dvd player with wires everywhere to really detract from an otherwise very clean and beautiful interior.

But that's just my opinion, of course!

So just check them out and take it for a long test drive yourself. See if that's something you'd really want, with or without the dvd player. Then go for it!

We also have owned our 08 Acadia SLT since October, we just hit 8k on it and love it. It replaced an 02 Venture. Same amount of room. We wanted, heated seats, DVD and XM. The one we found had that and the dual sun roofs and the 19" wheels. One thing I can say is if you get the factory DVD system and the sun roof it will make a difference on the view out the back through the rear view mirror. The DVD screen gets in the way since it has to sit lower in the ceiling do to the sun roofs. We could have done without the sun roofs but this was already on the lot and the color my wife wanted, red jewel. We didn't really check and thought the SLT had everything but didn't do our home work, so we didn't get the memory seats, which are nice since I'm tall and she is short.

We really like it. The power is not the greatest but will pull the close to 5k weight pretty well. So far our economy has been hanging around 23mpg highway. Not sure of city since we have to travel everywhere we go.

Since this is the same engine that is in the CTS I'm sure there are or will be tricks that can be done to it in the near future, I hope. :tear:

You can go to the Acadia forum and read all about it. I got on there just after we bought it and thought did we make a mistake, but so far no issues and we both really like it.

I cant comment too much on the Acadia, but I can say my Grandpa bought a Enclave and wow that is a nice looking vehicle. I'm 16 and I think it looks good. I also like the Acadia but if I had to choose I would go with the Enclave. You will get better build quality with the Buick, better quality materials, and better sound isolation. Everything else is pretty much the same. I am not sure there any options that you can get with the Buick and not with the Acadia. Well good luck!

I also looked at the Enclave for a second...they had them sitting side by side on the lot. They look darn identical...haven't done any real research on the Enclave though.

The Enclave is the luxury class of the three. One thing that comes to mind is the head lights move into a turn with the vehicle. I also think more of what is an option on the Acadia is standard equipment on the Enclave.

Oh one other thing, some time in 09 the 3.6L is suppose to be direct injected which bumps it up to I think 309hp. :)

ALL 2009 GM Lambda's--the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook, and new Chevrolet Traverse--will all have the Direct-Injection version of the 3.6L standard.

It makes 304hp in the CTS, BUT the Lambdas are a completely different vehicle with a different transmission, etc., so the power output will be modified for the specific duty. So, don't jump on any one number too quickly.

The other changes for 2009, aside from the new Chevrolet Traverse (think GMC Acadia with a curvier rear end like the Buick Enclave, and then the face and interior like the new '08 Malibu), are:

-New interior center stacks, with "integrated" radio and HVAC controls. Essentially, one big dash unit without the separate radio/HVAC units, because it looks cleaner.

-Direct-Injection 3.6L engine. Not just power, but puts out less emissions at start-up and such.

-Bluetooth integration.

-Cooled seats optional, in addition to just the heated seats now.

-And a few other things here and there, like colors.

The Enclave is still, by far, the hottest and best selling of the current trio. It really took things by storm, for sure, because of looks, features, price, and the extra refinement over the others--without costing more. We actually were going to trade our Suburban for one--we LOVED the Enclave--but reconsidered and instead bought a car. Having driven them all, there really is a noticeable difference in the interior and quietness (shockingly so) of the Buick vs. the GMC/Saturn, which themselves first astounded me with how refined they are.

The new Chevrolet is going to be the value leader, at least in lower trim levels, starting lower than the others...but then loaded up not being much different. It will be shown soon, and available in the summer.

Just to be fair, Acadia outsells the Enclave by 2000-3000 units per month, but all three are great vehicles and fit a certain niche.

Number-wise, yes, but what I am referring to is the turn around of how quickly they sell. The Acadia is simply produced in the highest numbers, and if you go to a dealer at this point, you are likely to see 5,10,15,etc. sitting around.

With the Enclave, they still cannot meet the full demand as far as orders, but are also trying to keep it that way to keep discounts to a minimum and lot inventories as low as possible. Few dealers even have Enclaves still because a big chunk of their allocations are sold orders and those that aren't hit the lot and are sold in a few days at most. Also, as many dealers are Buick-Pontiac-GMC, most have commented that the Enclave has actually killed off a chunk of their Acadia sales based on the number of people being more impressed with the Buick when they compare. Not everyone, and the Acadia is great, but that has been common.

The Outlook is the slowest, mainly because of the lack of Saturn dealers and the MSRP-only sales which turns people off.

Then, soon, just on sheer volume, the Chevy Traverse should be in the lead in numbers just because of the widest model and price spread, and having its own dedicated plant.
