got a 08 gmc 3500 dually and i can't figure how to get the tailgate off . it has the easy lift option. but if it was easy i would have had it off. i feel stupid

No worries... we've all been stupid a time or two... and probably will again.

 

If it's like every other GM truck I've had you should be able to open the tailgate about halfway and slip one end off of its hinge through a slot in the end of the gate mounted hinge. Disconnect the cables and it's off. Good luck!

 

EDIT: After thinking about this some more and letting my coffee kick in... I bet it is more complicated with the easy lift mechanism. Looks like you caught me being stupid!

No your correct Jim...its the same method. The side with the plit is on the pass side, so that comes out first.

the pass side pops out but on the driverside there is a rod sticking out into the body. i pulled on it some mabe not hard enough

What the hell is all of this easy lift tailgate thing? I see all tha manufactures now say that you can lift their tailgates with one hand. I've never owned a truck that I had to use two hands to lift or open the tailgate.

yeah just makes an easier to lift gate. I wouldn't need it though its a truck, not a little car to be super gentle, lift that gate & slam it shut lol. I never even tried taking a gate off so lol

i have a v gate for my 5th wheel that i wanted to put on. the truck came with it i guess standard? i was told all locking tailgates have it. i must be really stupid because this will not pop off.
