1999 Sonoma Stuck In 4wd

My 99 Sonoma 4.3L 4WD shifts into 4WD - pushbutton 4WD - and won't come out.

I can get it out if I find a slippery surface and in reverse keep tapping the gas a number of times and eventually it comes out.

Any help would be appreciated.

We had this happen to my wifes Blazer. I can't remember the exact cause was but it had to be fixed by the dealer.

I just had this problem fixed on my 99 sonoma yesterday. Turns out that the vacuum switch was on all the time, even when it was in 2WD. They had to replace the switch and do something with the vacuum to fix it...cause it all happened when I was drive like 80mph down the highway and all of a sudden there was this super loud noise that sounded like the splash guard was riding on the tire tread. Turns out it was the gear that engages the 2WD to 4WD had fallen half way into place and was rubbing against the main gears that turn the wheels. So somehow all of a sudden the solenoid and vacuum gave out while driving, but they fixed it with a new switch and some labor, cost me $360.00, not cheap, but now it works correctly. Hope this helps.
